Haunted Houses - Fort Delaware
Why did we rate this "Confirmed"? Because multiple sources off the
internet sites have experienced paranormal activity at this location
& therefore warrants a rating of "Confirmed".
What's the tale? Fort Delaware has been home to many prisoners... from pirates to Confederate soldiers and therefore is home to many ghosts. Fort Delaware is a military fortress complete with its own dungeon. It's dungeon is the most haunted portion of the fort and now that it is open to the public you can experience for yourself the moaning, temperature extremes and noises of agony coming from its dungeon walls.
What do we know as fact? The fort has a long history in the Civil War and operated as a make-shift prison for more than 33,000 prisoners and more than 3,000 died in Fort Delaware. What is not fact is there were pirates held as prisoners in Fort Delaware, that part of the internet folklore does not seem to be true nor is there a dungeon and the officer's kitchen is the most haunted place in Fort Delaware.
Thoughts: Obviously when you are dealing with that number of deaths in one location you are going to have ghosts, spirits and residual energy on the grounds. They do have a candlelight ghost tour you can take during the seasonable months.
