Kanayago, a celestial kami, fell to the Earth and died. She began an internal vigil over her own body. She is the presiding spirit of iron workers. Her early manifestations were as a female, but later she appears in both male and female form. Kanayago is now considered male half of a male-female pair of iron working spirits. The male’s name is Kanayago-sama and his female partner is Kanayama-hime.
