Olive ~ The Magick History
Olive ~ The Magick History
The olive is an important item that is referred to in the Bible quite often. There is a lot of importance to the olive in a great symbolic way. The olive in the Bible was used for the anointment of a king. Using an oil in a divine or religious ceremony is to anoint. The olive was also a gift of Athene in the Greek stories and legends. Poseidon and Athene had an argument over the control of Attica. Poseidon made a salt-water spring erupt from the rock of Acropolis. Athene had a different idea; she made a more significant and precious item appear, an olive tree. The Gods favored her item more and then the city of Athens was named. The olive was a very sacred item to the citizens of Athens, harming the sacred item would result in a serious punishment. The olive today is considered a valuable symbol for peace; a dove may be commonly associated with it. The olive’s significance remains on the tombs of martyrs. A branch of olive in medieval legends or stories tells of protection from anything wicked, witchcraft specifically.
