Does Anyone Keep Hamsters?

I'm thinking of getting a hamster and wondering about what type is best. And no, I don't have children! Honestly, I'm trying to fulfill a need-I had a hamster when I was 9 that died suddenly and broke my little-kid heart, so I sort of want to get one!

how cute hamsters are! I know nothing about them but I like them. I have plans to get a long haired guinea pig when I have the money, I will spoil it and make it cute hairstyles, braids, bows... and all day long having it on my lap! hehehehe

oh, I will also brush it's long hair and sprinkle it with parfum special for pets (there are yummy scents available in the market, such as strawberry! yum!) and give it treats often. It will be a very spoiled individual

Short haired teddy near hamsters are in my opinion the best ones to have. They are generally friendlier than the dwarf hamsters and usually live longer as well. The best dirty them is the port or lab block supplemented with veggies, some nuts, and fruit for treats. Good luckwith your search

I agree here about the Teddy , I have had a few of these growing up and always seemed to enjoy being held , the drawfs never liked that and I have been bit by them .
One more thing I would only have one at a time , a male or female is fine - I had kept mates in the cage - when she was done She castrated him.
but she was very sweet and a great pet and just watch there diet- when you shop make sure they look healthy and none have wet tail.. :thumbup:

Another one agreeing on the Teddy Bear Hamsters. I had one as a kid and she was the sweetest hamster I ever owned. Loved to play and be held. Lived quite awhile too (about 6 years). Now I have guinea pigs though.

For a while we had a hamster at home. It was back when I was drinking. Certain types of liquor seemed to add enormous appeal to the taste of my blood. Mostly very friendly, though.

I agree. I have a blackbear hamster (A black teddy bear) and he's just adorable. VERY sweet!

We had some dwarf hamsters. They are great, but live a very short life. We were lucky of the 3 that we had, Chewy (the momma hamster) lived almost 3 years.

The secret to having a good relationship with your hamster is to handle it daily.
