To under stand all of this - a great deal of background needs to be known. So this and next post will be on background.

Jim Morrison and I were born about the same time. So were many others. Most of our fathers had come back from WWII and broke off into several categories:

1. Had a job waiting for them (Familiy Business)

2. Took advantage of the GI Education Bill and got a free degree in the field of your choice thus giving you a job closer to your real interests

3. A Veterans Hiring Bill...that put Vets ahead of other students applying for grants and position within colleges

4. Loved the military and having risen (tp some degree in rank) decided to become career officers.

Thus a lot of us lived on bases and moved around a lot. The higher ranks had the same monetary and educational priviledges as all other military personal. But they did have on other thing...Very High Connections form people who owed them big time for all kinds of great work and for favours.

My first grade was a military base. And when you moved it was like this...."Dear, I know you will have some sense of loneliness but we are moving to (example from Amherst Massachusetts to Talahassee Florida.) You musn't tell your friends period. That's why your firend and buddy, Michael suddenly disappeared but we couldn't tell you untill now.. your daddy does important work for the government and this weekend we will be moving...you don't have to worry about your things the government will take care of all that"....I had loved Michael as a brother and when he disappeared it was as though someone had put a bullet in his head. Effectively, emotionally, "they" murdered the brother I loved....And then it was my turn....

My father was in Naval Intelligence and Jim Morrison's father was a Navy Admiral. WHen my father died...My mother came out as a lesbian...and later I always wondered if it wasn't a Lavendar Marriage (because looking back I find out that he hung out in hotels in NYC (The Penn Pont Hotel) and bars in Buffalo (Jackie White's) that catered to a gay clientele. It doesn't bother me at all that he was gay...it bthers me that I was lied to). I didn't want to be in the military. We don't know what Jim Morrison's father was into except it had something to do with Viet Nam...Morrison didn't want to be in the military..
And a whole lot of other people our age felt the same way. Mike had disappeared forever.

SO that's how most of us World War II Army brats, Navy Brats, Marines Brats..lived our young most influential childhoods....We were sick of oiur fathers' McCarthy-like attitudes, while we loved our fathers, and so would crush their dreams of us as we because individuals and we would hate them and hate ourselves for being unable to gain their respect and at the same time hated their job of killing people or, at least, approving it. by the time I was 16, I was "out" as a socialist, a bisexual, a "refusenik" to all things military, and had no interst in making money but rather to open William Blake's "Doors of Perception " (that we first read about in Aldous Huxley's "Doors of Perception").

Many fathers could get us anything we wanted as long as they wanted to do get it. But what we wanted, these fathers either hated or feared or both........

I will posting several more posts and presenting a lot of information that most people don't know.....Morrison needs to be understood in context added instead of a poet-musician-singer without context. So stay tuned...it gets wilder and perhaps we can even see thru Morrison's eyes. I have the advantage of having been "There" (but this will all make sense as we move along) Seriously. The next installment I am working on today....and finshed sometime between later today - or sometime Saturday...

Cheers,
Caiyros

Thank you for sharing this information, Caiyros. I find it fascinating. Jim Morrison has intrigued me ever since I first heard his voice... whether singing or reciting his poetry (even better, in my opinion). I await the next installment with bated breath .
