So, I did encounter this story about Grendel a few times now. It's European folklore it seems. From long long long time ago, when Vikings roamed the continent or something.
It's mentioned in the story of Beowulf, that he fought Grendel, his mother and a dragon? 1rd
I'm just not sure what Grendel or his mom is? Does anyone have any idea?
Is Grendels mom a water spirit? A mermaid?
Are they neanderthalers?
Is she a great-granddaughter of Cain?
Are they demons?
Is she based upon a Godess?
It's just a poem, that I don't even understand in its original language, but well... if you have an idea, I would love it to know more about it.

And I'm not even sure where it happened, but it seems it happened in England or the UK ( before it was UK of course), and in the Hall or Grendels mom, Beowulf found a sword. I have questions about the sword as well. It makes me think about the sword Excalibur, that King Arthur did receive of the Lady of the Lake, and that was returned to her by his dead. 2co

I know this is a late reply but it seems like scholars were torn between her being a monstrous daughter of Cain and a Valkerie. She was referred to in the original language as a monster while being called a noble woman in the same way of spelling as a Valkerie.
