I too, was always feeling like I failed at trying to meditate, as my mind is constantly full of thoughts, like a whirling dervish in my head, and there was NO way i could completely shut off my mind to meditate.

so this makes me feel better knowing I am not alone, and others have had this same problem.

I usually end up with something like 'hi dragon G, hi dragon G, hi dragon G' going through my mind over and over again. Then it's 'how are ya?' going over and over.

Eventually, I get seriously tired....so I just sit there and just let my mind go.

I haven't gotten to any kind of imagery...still working n it.

:clap: thank you so much. every time i try to meditate i can get to this beautiful, peaceful state, and i mess it up because i find myself thinking about something i didnt think i was suppose to be thinking about and then i stop myself and draw back to trying to clear my mind. holy wow, i was doing a pretty descent job of fighting myself while meditating. lol. now i can just meditate and accept its ok to think, if i can stop fighting myself now ill be ok:hug:

Great post Ileana and so true!! Just the idea of trying to stop thinking is enough to bring all kinds of thoughts up. A few years ago when I took some meditation classes with a teacher who was a Buddhist monk, he told us to just let the thoughts come and then release them, and to use breathing as a way to do this. Now, my idea of meditation has broaden to include movement~ walking meditation for example when I'm cutting the grass, or walking my dogs, being outside and just going with the flow without trying to force anything is so much easier. :thumbup:

To bring up one point... Lot of meditation you run into out there is about observing. Thoughts will pop up and that's natural but the idea of the meditation is to observe them without getting attached to them. They come up, you look and notice it's there and you let it go without grabbing onto it and the emotions and such it provokes. And same for next thought and so on. Like was said, it's not about preventing thoughts. This is the other side of meditation and the other one is creating the thoughts and images yourself as Ileana said. I'm no expert though.
