Layering is essential for any good binding, casting, ritual, or any other practice where the outcome is going to be permanent & multi-purpose.

It means you cast in a certain order to create a well-rounded binding of magic that allows you to create the most effective result possible.

Not all practitioners take the time to learn this and it's not a necessity by any stretch, but for me there's not another option. Layering provides you the ability to accomplish multiple tasks at once and when done properly it can change the effectiveness of any binding.

Preparation & planning takes the longest but once you get into the practice of layering the formation of the layers will come more quickly to you and you won't think twice about it.

For example, this is something I had discussed with Ileana previously about making a mirror that could summon the essence or energy of someone:

You would need to start with a base spell of protection to keep out anything unwanted other than what you call upon. You would also need a target spell to be able to pinpoint a person and a target spell is the easiest way to do this. Now that you have a target spell you need a way to pull that target to the mirror which would require a conjuration or summon spell. Calling them to the mirror doesn't ensure manifestation so you'd probably want to top everything off with a manifestation or vision spell.

In short you'd want to cast in this order:

#1 Protection spell
#2 Target spell
#3 Conjuration or Summon spell
#4 Manifestation or Vision spell

Of course once you dive into this project you may find you want to add or manipulate spells along the way. Trial & error and try, try, again should be the mantras for this project because you may find that a Grecian Protection spell works better than an English Protection spell or an Egyptian Summon Spell works better than a French Conjuration Spell. This is the flavor of making your own spell blends & magic creations.

working with layers on a casting is extremely rewarding in that it also makes it a bit more difficult for someone else to copy your work. within each layer of my castings i add an extra something utilizing various threads of my own energy which means after adding a protection or deadspell i might incorporate some of my ancient knowledge essence while after adding a layer for health or love i might use some heart energy. each casting is always different and i go by what "feels like it should be added" within each layer making sure that when the entire casting is completed there is no way another will be able to figure out just what makes the casting work as it does. this is one of the secrets from my mentor that was allowed to be passed along and shared.

if casting was just saying a few words or phrase and leaving it as it is i might have become bored with casting. when my mentor told me to consider magick as a large onion with many skins that can be peeled away he also showed how casting works in much the same way only we begin at the middle with spellwork and layer outwards. because everyone is an individual themselves, no two castings will ever be the same because nobody has the same energies and the practitioner might use different energies from themselves each separate case and different needs each time. even a protection spell, health, love, wealth, etc. spell would be different because of the fact no two people are alike and i was taught to sense the energies of the individual i'm casting for and work those energies into the casting itself. this is what makes the art of spellcasting rewarding and always unique. hope this helps! hugs all, :grouphug:
