I've been offered this Haunted Building to buy-Can't decide?

This wonderful old building is around the corner from my house. a friend out of state owns it and she really wants me to buy it. It's EXPENSIVE-(over 400,000 but she will carry (she is asking 600,000 to others)) but BEAUTIFUL!!!! Once was a restaurant, has 4 rental cottages in back and a reputation of being haunted. OOH!
(My house is in an old book on haunted houses)

I could open a coffee house-think Central Perk! Do overnight Haunted House Events-lots of documented Haunted places in the area-I live in a historical town.

Verna, that is a beautiful home..I do like the home you currently show as your personal home though..I too, love old homes..Particularly the old Victorian ones..Why oh why...Do they cost so much money :crying:

P.S.S. If you think over 400,000 for that house is expensive..Try paying over 400,000 for a small condo near the beach..Makes me mad..I could have bought a nice historical home elsewhere

I know! Property in California is insane. 4 years ago she wanted over a million for the house but the bust came. Right now houses that WERE 400,000 are like 150,000. Of course head to a more cosmopolitan area and a 2 bedroom cottage is like 500,000 to (was) like a million dollars!
Even before the BOOM-now Bust a TINY(less than 1,000sqf) house in Carmel was 800,000 and up!

My concern is paying and property dropping MORE!!!
It's just that I LOVE this place--always have! The patio is fantastic!

It's been empty for 10 years. I love it but am not sure I'm up to a new business. I would LOVE to make it a house again but..... It has a HUGE all stainless and tile industrial kitchen. I can't see using it to do regular cooking.

I like the idea of a coffee house with stained glass lamps everywhere-I have a dozen or more packed away! LOL!!!
Big comfy chairs, vintage sofas, lots of tables and book shelves, wi-fi, people sitting and working on their laptops. Funky, elegant, vintage, retro decor.

The Starbucks down the street makes 25,000 a week or more and the little coffee house down the street always has people. Still..... LOT's of work and money! AND the economy!!!!! Especially in my area.

Here is the kitchen-part of it at least.....

And the upstairs front room.

It's after 3AM--bed for me!

Holy crap Verna!! Jump on this!! What an awesome place. I love old homes! There are tons here in Ohio. And your ideas for a business are great. Perhaps your spirits will help you decide? How is it structurally though, as far as plumbing, electrical and such? Too bad you're in Cali-My husband is a licensed home inspector and for any of my CH buddies it would be no charge

BTW-I've been meaning to ask you, now that you mentioned it, what's the title of the book that your current home is featured in?

Ooh I also wanted to ask what kind of haunting is happening in the building? A coffee house is a great idea, but what if the building is known for being haunted? I'm thinking the locals might not be too eager to have coffee in a haunted property... :eyebrow:

I can't offer any help on should you buy, but I did want to say it is a lovely place.
