You want a creature or a dark art spirit for protection?
Volks are very good protectors in the creature catagory.
Wraiths are excellent protection but they are dark art spirits.
The are probably the lowest maintence of all the spirits.
There are others, but I can only give from my personal experience,
some of the other members may have experiences with Draguars and Feniers both dark arts and both considered excellent protection.
My spelling may be off, so check the encyclopedia.
There are some class 5 spirit stones on sale right now, this weekend only for $25.

To my knowledge, ghosts normally don't attack you for no reason.
What you really need to be aware of are curses, hexes and black magick from someone who has a problem with you.
I know about this from my father who has the 'gift' (or 'curse') of seeing ghosts.
When I was very young, he was once 'attacked' by some black magick practitioner, paralyzing him for about a year. He was unable to walk, even though the doctors found nothing wrong with him. He was finally able to walk again after a paranormal cured him.
The paranormal said that he (my father) hurt someone's feelings really badly, causing that person to contact a black magick practitioner to 'attack' my father. My father wasn't a nice person, he had lots of enemies.
Anyway, it's one of the main reasons that I believe magic and spirits exist.
