on a fb page, wiccan by nature, they listed this awesome cleaning solution:

a bucket of hot water,
1/4 cup vinegar
15 drops of essential oil

and you use it to clean your floors! i did it tonight and it was awesome! smells so good now. i only have lavender here but i was looking at target for other ones and couldnt' find any. so i bought the cheapest reed diffuser i could find and used some of the oil from the jar in there. but i'll probably stop at walmart sometime when that runs out and just get a little bottle.

i love vinegar. it's so useful for so many things, and the ultimate cleaner. and until now i never considered adding whatever-scent-you-love of essential oil to it for a great cleaning solution!

Hey - that is a great tip! There are also essential oil blends known in hoodoo like vanvan and chinese wash that smell great and also are dual purposed for both physical and spiritual cleansing. I have the ingredients for vanvan and make my own... can't remember it offhand, but one day I got inspired and created my own blend also... but now you are inspiring me to get busy and use it for more than a casual spritz....

Yeah, I like to have lemongrass oil on hand because it's such an all purpose oil.

ooh excellent i'm going to look up "vanvan" and read more!

so there are many uses for lemongrass oil too? good to know

we don't live a really natural or green lifestyle here but we do small things..and i mean in the end it's always more cost effective and beneficial for our environment and that of the animals and my two toddlers in the household too.

plus bugs HATE vinegar (especially ants) and the oils too, since they aren't edible! that comes in handy in GA where bugs like to think they rule or something. pfft!

Great tip! I've used vinegar and baking soda a lot because I don't like cleaning fragrances, but I love essential oils! Thank you!

Actually, as it turns out, it is easy being green.

Hey, I did not think about that, about the bugs. Hmm! Good to know! Better than laying down a perimeter of raid. Yeah, it`s true, every little bit of stuff that you can do that is natural, helps.

Vanvan, does have lemongrass, also palmarosa, and a couple others. Simple make and a great, fresh scent that is very cleansing.

Thanks for the tip! I like to use essential oils because they usually don't give me headaches like some synthetic scents. I've made some house cleaning things myself, but haven't used vinegar for it yet. Maybe I've been worried that the whole house would smell like vinegar, but the essential oil would probably mask it at least a little. I'm going to try this.

I've used apple cider vinegar before for some weird things. It works surprisingly well as hair conditioner when mixed with plenty of water, applied to hair and then rinsed. And this is ::tmi::, but when I got warts on my fingers I used apple cider vinegar on them. (Try this one at your own risk. I've no idea if it's really safe or not.)

We use Eucalyptus (you can also put 1-3 drops on your air filter, and also on your vacuum cleaner bag or filter). Orange is also great when cleaning, but don't use it if you have any cats in the house.

I LOVE lavender oil. I mix it with a bit of water in a spray bottle and spray it on my pillow and sheets before I go to bed. I also use it in my skincare routine (1 drop of serum, 2 drops of jojoba oil, 1 drop of lavender oil). Lavender oil has similar antibacterial properties as tea tree oil does, but with less sting.
