Yesterday I bought some Sergeants flea and tick drops for the dogs. I was going to go back this weekend and get ones for cats for Priestess. I put them on the dogs. I was not aware the drops soaked into the skin. At 2AM I heard something fall. I got up, thinking the puppy had knocked something off again. I found Priestess lying in the floor, in convulsions. She was fighting for her breath.
Just by rubbing against the dogs, the drops got onto her fur and poisoned her. She died at 5AM this morning. Pleas do not, for any reason, use sergeants flea and tick drops on your animals. It will kill them. Please learn my hard lesson without losing your furbabies in the process.

That is horrible

I just looked it up on google and apparently this happens to a lot of animals as there are lots of negative reviews out there. Wonder why it hasn't been recalled?! RIP Priestess

Oh, no.

I know that the drops used for dogs are toxic to cats, but that just makes me wonder why they don't just make the canine flea drops nontoxic to dogs AND cats.

Some cats groom their furry siblings. Maybe she licked one of the dogs or brushed against a dog, then groomed herself. Just dreadful.

The vet said it soaked through her skin and that is what poisoned her. We kept her separate from the dogs because they had the drops on them.

Oh, NO!!!
I'm so sorry to hear that.
I've been wary of commercial pet meds for a while now, and try to find natural remedies when needed.
In this case, Google can indeed be your friend.

I'm sorry Huffette. Losing a fur-baby can be one of the hardest things to do. RIP Priestess!

I am so sorry to hear this!!!! We don't use any of that stuff either, because our dog and kitties can not tolerate the stuff!!!!! I don't understand why such products are sold when stuff like this happens, I know of others who pets died from these products!!!! 1sa

We need to get the word out there. I am going to do research and see if I can appeal to the FDA to ban this drug. It is too dangerous for animals. If it is that readily absorbed, what could it do to small children who come into contact with it?
