Common Sense, foresight and wisdom. Those are your best protections. as for Meta protection? Rachnee is surprisingly good at keeping people bound, Vinz and Gozer keep away dogs and other beasties that do not have my best interests at heart, Specters are good because they can bring fear into peoples hearts, and of course wraiths. I could go on...but I wont.
