here is another cold and cough remedy from my book american indian healing arts from E. barrie kavasch and karen baar

wild cherry cough syrup
2 tsp chopped or powdered dried wild cherry bark
2 tsp chopped dried marshmallow root
2 cups water
1 cup raw honey
1 cup maple syrup

combine the first three ingredients in a small pot and bring to a boil over medium-low heat, stirring carefully. Lower the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 20 minutes or until the decoction has reduced by half. Strain the liquid through a filter into a clean sauce pan-there should be about a 1 cup-and return to low heat. Simmer slowly, stirring in the honey and maple syrup, for about 5 minutes, until thick. pour the hot syrup in to a sterile jar; cover wen it is cool. to soothe a bad cough, use it as needed, about 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon every four hours

Basic hot toddy, said it can relieve cold:

1 cup of herbal tea, hot
1 teaspoon of honey
1 shot of whisky, or bourbon

Mix them all and drink : )

There are other recipes for hot toddy out there, though.

cabbage: cabbage has traditionally been used for medicinal purposes as well as for cooking. It has anti-inflammatory properties, and contains chemicals which can prevent cancer, and the ancient Greeks used fresh cabbage juice to relieve sore or infected eyes, and juice from the cabbage stem is a good remedy for ulcers. Traditionally, the Romans and Egyptians would drink cabbage juice before big dinners to prevent intoxication, cabbage seeds are said to prevent hang overs
properties: an excellent anti-inflammatory, cabbage contains lactic acid, which acts to disinfect the colon, used to reduce the pain of headaches and rheumatic disorders, soothes eczema and other itching or weeping skin conditions, anticancer, draws out infection, red cabbage leaves are the basic ingredient of a good cough syrup
Uses: make cabbage a regular part of you're diet to reduce you're risk of cancer, a cabbage poultice can be applied to boils and infected cuts to draw out the infection and disperse pus, applied to bruises and swelling, macerated cabbage leaves will encourage healing, dab white cabbage juice on mouth ulcers, and gargle for sore throats, a warm cabbage compress on affected area reduces the pain of headaches and some kinds of neuralgia, drink fresh cabbage juice daily to reduce the discomfort of gastric ulcers and bronchial infections, raw cabbage juice is said to be useful for the treatment of ulcers, psoriasis, chronic headaches, asthma, cystitis, and bronchitis. drink 1-2fl oz (25-50ml) daily to get the best effects
okay there is everything my encyclopedia herbal book has about the properties and uses about cabbage
