Of course, in THIS house, EVERY day is Hug Your Cat Day, as my spoiled feline will attest. :) But by all means, everyone with kitties, go and hug your cat at once. And then give the kitty another hug for me. 1s
But the only cats near here are my mom's and the kittens don't like me, moira likes me but she's old so she doesn't like hugs anymore :/
Sad isn't it? I had snowy but only because a demon familiar possessed her to spend time with me but it left a couple weeks ago so I don't nothing nada

Lemme hug your cat lol
You'd love the place where I volunteer on Sundays. The PetSmart has 9 cats from the oldest local no-kill rescue. A few of them are new arrivals and are shy. But the rest of the kitties LOVE attention and purr their heads off for petting, hugs, brushing, and lap time. And they're all young -- most of them are between 1 and 2 years old -- so they love playing. Along with making sure they've got food and water, and their cages are clean, I make sure that everyone who wants to come out has some time to exercise, play, interact with other kitties if they want, etc.

Is there a PetSmart or PetCo near you? I know PetSmart has adoptable cats from local rescues, I think PetCo does the same, but I don't live near one so I'm not sure. If anyone here does frequent a PetCo, maybe they can chime in.

You might be able to volunteer right AT a local rescue, too, if that'd be an easier commute for you. You'd be doing good work for pets in need, either way.
Unfortunately I can't have a pet of my own I'm asthmatic but there's a petsmart nearby but they won't let anyone actually cuddle the cats or anything you even have to use sanitizer before even petting one through the cage unless maybe adopting one they'll let you. They're very strict

Sincerely NekoTheCat~

I asked about the rules during my orientation. The PetSmart lets the rescue set the guidelines for who can come in. I was told I could use my own discretion, in the case of people who are have not gone through the approval process. The person training me coordinates the volunteers for that location, and she gave examples of having allowed potential adopters in (provided they didn't have an overly-excited small child in tow who might scare the cats). But then she recounted the time when a creepy looking guy wanted to come in and she didn't trust him. She told him no. Fortunately, there are not too many unsavory characters approaching the cat adoption area (though one did have to be escorted out of the store in recent weeks). I wrote to the volunteer email list, "If you ever feel unsafe when you leave the store, go directly into the Planet Fitness next door. It's open 24/7. From there, dial 911."

But for the PetSmart near you, would your asthma allow you to volunteer there? Then you could pet the cats as much as you like, along with doing caretaking that would let you know that you're making a positive difference in the world. Sometimes, that kind of knowledge can be a big resource to draw from when we're in a low-morale moment.

I'm also disabled and I can't be around cats just not too much or their bathroom per day and I'm on SSI

NekoTheCat, my roommate owns her own animal rescue group (I'm the sole kitty foster, yay!) And we do our adoptions at two different PetSmarts. While I can't attest to policies of the store, I do know they're always welcoming to us and potential adopters. Rescue groups are ALWAYS looking for volunteers, whether it's to foster, to donate, etc. I honestly feel it's one of the best things I'll ever do in my life. Plus i adore cats, have two of my own, and my roommate's cat adopted ME, lol. I am so sorry to hear of your allergies. Incidentally, I too am disabled, though for a spinal disease. I'm extremely grateful for the income, though I'm hard pressed to always make ends meet. There have been very lean times where I've bought food or paid for care for my cats before I bought for myself.
