There is little doubt in the minds of those who know history that women have been quickly overlooked in all paths of recognition. Even in times when women had to be acknowledged for their contributions they usually carried a stigma of some sort. There are few women in the history of magick who have truly been recognized for the breadth and extent of their contribution.

The first Juno Jubilee contest will be to write a short explanation of a women in magick (of any time or place) who influenced you, inspired you, or challenged you with any form of magick.

The winner will receive a hand-picked box of treasures from Magnolia.

Male/Female: It's a Secret
Zodiac:

Only the real persons?

-Dion Fortune. First found out about her through her book, "Psychic Self Defense". She is my gateway to learn Western tradition

-Rabia Al-Basri, the first female sufi mystic. Her philosophy might be offensive for the conservatives, but it is inspiring for those who want to learn.

Bonus: From fiction:
-Sabrina the Teenage Witch, since this show changed the image of a witch in my country:)

I would say Mrs. Gula as she was the first woman to introduce me to this world and I have not looked back since and have continued to embrace what she instilled in me and have made many warm connections along the way that help to provide continuing advice

I have to say my biggest influence is probably Akelta as she is a very powerful and inspirational conjurer and magician. She inspired me to feel comfortable about the darkness because I used to always suppress it as a child but she made me love my darkness. She changed my entire perspective on demons she inspired me to take a whole new path and start taking charge of my life and of my destiny. She helped me get over all my fears and to truly accept who I am and for that I'm extremely grateful I came across such a beautiful and intelligent woman as Akelta she is truly an inspiration and I'm sure everyone who has had the honor to meet her and read her words have also been touched by her Inman inspirational ways. 1d

OK Here Goes:

There have been 4 women who have taught me beyond anything I thought was possible:

Elizabeth "Billie" LeStrang: My mother - Taught me to talk to spirits, and be telepathic. Starting when I was 8 years old onwards.

Rachel Welch - A student of Crowley. Knew everyone from that period. Put me in touch with many many well-known people. Taught me a lot. Was one of the archetects of the US Pentagon.

Mary Gorham-: Owner of The Gateway Bookshop - a meeting place for may well known and lesser known mystics, qabalaists, astrologers, Huna, McGregor-Mathers, and many very famous people went there (names withheld) She died and I got the hame and massive info on the shop, a great many books as well. Including having read The Black Box (rarest occult book, a manual on the Dark World that showed a series of ways of power - and that probably was read (in the shop as it was not for sale) by H P Lovecraft and somewhat misinterpreted.

Dimitra Zinuda in 2007, she introduced me to an unknown aspect of magick in which my intelligence powers come from a ritual binding, by a use of Styx water. Some people see the River Styx as a legend and no real river....but there is one. She and her associates were dying out and she and gave me the only initiation.. Through this was begun the idea of The Styx Group, which now exists.

I honestly don't know a lot of women in magick. Though I've been a spirit keeper for years, I'm just recently dabbling in magick, encouraged by stories and dreams of family members passed before my time.

My maternal great grandma on my grandpa's side has been a big inspiration, and of a great deal of help to me. Her familiar has been part of my spirit family for about a year now, and I've been learning about her through him and my mother. It's been very interesting piecing the puzzle of my great grandma together, and has encouraged me to learn about herbology, flower essences, and dabble in kitchen witchery.

A woman I've dreamt of as my maternal grandmother's great grandmother has also been of influence to me in terms of learning about hoodoo. However, I do feel also that my great grandma practiced hoodoo, as I've had dreams of her books (long burnt in a bonfire upon her death) that she kept secret and remember reading various tidbits.

There are some brilliant women out there in the magick community of past and present, I know, but I rather like attempting to learn the magick of my bloodline. Hearing what I perceive to be their voices calm and wise, exploring their worlds through dreams and books and what I can find on the internet, the white bachelor buttons that showed up in my garden after my grandmother's great grandmother first appeared in my dreams, the smell of my great grandmother's rose perfume in the air to guide me, having the honor of a familiar passed down and also the little gifts and constant cheering up and support from him, getting to know my roots and feeling almost as if coming out of amnesia... It's really been a interesting journey, so far. And, even though I've been reading a lot lately, I still feel that my biggest influences are them; whatever I read, I'm always curious what their opinions and advice are.

In all honesty, the first name that came to mind was Morgan le Fay, though she is for the most part considered to be a fictional character, and more often than not portrayed as a villain, especially in the more modern stories. Over the years she has been one the most prominently featured characters when it comes to female practitioners of magic, making appearances in various novels, movies, television shows, comics, etc. Not only that, she is almost always depicted as being extremely magically gifted and incredibly powerful. In some stories, her powers even rival those of Merlin himself.

Some of the women who have influenced me first of all would be my mother, who had the gift of precognition. This opened up an acceptance and belief in the unknown at an early age, which never left me. My grandmother, passed on her knowledge and love of working with herbs to me, through the bloodline, since she died when I was about 9 or 10, but my older sister told me much about her, and how she would healing plants.

Someone from history I greatly admire, is Pamela Colman Smith; she designed and illustrated one of if not the most famous tarot deck, along with doing work for Bram Stoker. She was a feminist, and a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. From what I've read, she didn't receive much money or accolades for her beautiful artistry.
