Interesting indeed. It is very true; not all of the sidhe are kind to all people, how they interact with a person depends on the person and the sidhe involved. Some can be truly terrifying in their interaction.

If you catch a living sidhe on a bad day it may end up costing you your life, or worse...always be courteous, ALWAYS.

Agreed. All in all, I've always been the type to steer well clear of anything remotely resembling a Wild Hunt, and this would certainly qualify in my little book. 0_0

It may be related to sluagh, I guess it's different spelling?:

They are probably related in etymology, but Morgan is a very scholarly specific sort and, I imagine, is speaking on something very specific from within the contemporary mythos she translates from and is definitely speaking specifically about the Fair Folk.

But I love linguistics, so I like this connection. B-)

I too love linguistics. The study of language is most fascinating and words have a lot of power so it is best to be percise with them. Especially when dealing with living sidhe. The words 'thank you' may land one in boiling water VERY fast. In spirit they seem more understanding but the words thank you still rub them the wrong way.

The words 'thank you' do not have a distinction between present and future; thank you may easily be interpreted as "I will thank you" thus getting one indebted to the sidhe in question, at least with living sidhe. As spirits and living entities they see it as more of an insult than much else because it is seen as a form of mocking them. Saying thank you to a brownie for example offends them because they help people because they want to, not in order to be thanked, so the term thank you is a great blow to their honor and pride. A truly pissed off brownie is how boggarts are sometimes made, and a living boggart can be a horrible house guest.

It is better to show gratitude with other words, not 'thank you'...'I am grateful', for example.
