Presuming they actually exist, and we're not talking about any of the wannabe organizations claiming to be the current incarnation of this group, you probably don't join. You probably get recruited. This is likely to happen only to the ultra-rich, ultra-powerful, or those who have proven themselves to be elite enough to rise above the lack of being ultra-rich. I'm talking "Einstein" and "Tesla" levels of eliteness; not just "really really good at something", but superhuman, world-shaking levels of ability in something the Illuminati would find useful. (I am not stating or implying Einstein OR Tesla were Illuminati, but they're the first two undeniably, superhumanly brilliant minds I could think of, off the top of my head.)

So if you're not among the 0.000001% of the rich and powerful, you'd better go and shake the world with something earth-shaking. Then wait to see if there's an outreach to you.
