Why does CH continue with this company that does all their development in the production environment instead of creating a development environment that they can test in before deploying releases?

But its not down. And the 500 Error Code is a server error, not a website error. e.g. Apache web services. So while the error is a generic message used by the server when there is no other explanation it is usually caused by web traffic that hits a resource "the wrong way". A refresh of one's browser usually corrects these responses from a server.

You frighten me, Spyderbite. The fact that it is not down when you read the message does not mean it was not down when I wrote it. Time, you know.

Moreover, a website error page displays the server error -- a somewhat petty distinction in this case. The 404 and 500 errors are two of several HTTP status codes and are not Apache specific. As it happens, I did take a screenshot so I'll try to attach. Pity I don't have the timestamp but it was roughly 12:30 PDT.

As it turns out, the site was being migrated. But no notification set up.

Fair enough. But just to clarify.. a 404 is a page not found error. That is a website error. Not a server error. It means that a hypertext link to a specific html page is no longer valid. Most sites today do not have links to html pages as they are dynamic.

None the less. As somebody who ran webhosting servers for over ten years from 1995 to 2002; I'm pretty familiar with error codes.
