Brand new to spirit-keeping. Tips?

So new, in fact, that I didn't know it was something people could do until I started reading this forum and people's experiences with their spirits.

Kind of without thinking about it, I ordered a Bronwyn angel (but it hasn't arrived yet), because I wanted to jump right in and experience these things for myself.

If someone is not especially sensitive to the presence of spirits, is there anything that can be done to open up that ability?

Thank you in advance for any and all tips or advice.

meditation is the biggest thing you can do. also ask them to come to you in dreams and ask them to help you remember said dreams.

watch for little signs here and there. some times its them wanting you to know that they are around.

I'll second the little things. I had adopted a white dragon from nana, and was wondering if she really wanted to be with me, when I glanced up at the sky and saw a cloud in a perfect dragon shape. The neat thing was that this cloud had no shading what so ever, nor did it have shadows, it was a perfectly pristine white. "Lin" arrived two days later and I feel like she's been content ever since.

Watch for sparkles out of the corner of your eye, or feathers falling or showing up when there shouldn't be any, etc. It's the smaller things that tell us they're there. :grouphug:

while you are waiting for your new friend to arrive work on your visualization abilities by closing your eyes and trying to visualize the area around you to the point where you can begin to "see" what we can't with open eyes. also begin to listen to your surroundings so that you become more attuned to sounds you may normally hear around your house so that when you hear something different you might realize it is your bronwyn or your next spirit friend and so forth. bronwyns are great and the one i have here i could never picture my life without him! keep us updated and welcome to the ::ch:: family!

Welcome and congrats on the angel - lovely choice to start out with   Ask your angel to visit in your dreams too, that is very easy for them and easy for beginners to have some interaction. Good luck :D

I'll third this :)

I strongly encourage meditation and interaction through dreams if one is not particularly sensitive. Dreams are, for some reason, incredibly effective methods for connecting with spirits. Invite them in to your dreams as you're getting reading for bed or beginning to fall asleep. I'd also encourage talking to your Angel aloud when possible, as I've seen immediate results come from this when attempted telepathy doesn't work.

Also, check out the Encyclopedia Entry on your Angel here: http://encyclopedia.creepyhollows.com/a ... onwyn.html

Focus on using some of the associations listed there for encouraging interaction.

Now I'm curious as to this feather thing: is this a typical indicator of Angels being present?

I will definitely try to do this. Thank you for your help and for the warm welcome! I will keep everyone updated with my progress. :)

Do you have any tips for meditation as well? I have tried sitting in silence and clearing my mind, but I am a worrier and can't seem to focus. They say it is difficult at first to shut out all of the chatter. Are there any techniques that might make it easier?

I'm big on looking for meaning through dreams, thank you for this advice. This is something I can do! lol ::noob::

lol you are asking someone who has the attention span of a squirrel. but i'll give you a way i try to do it.

since i would sit in a dark room with my eyes closed i would think how ridiculous it was. my mind would race telling me i could be doing this or that and what did i think of (what ever my mind's topic was). FINALLY i went onto youtube and found this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_a-Yh5F ... re=related

after a couple of weeks of starting with that. i tried again with out its help. sitting in a dark room, comfortable, etc, etc. this time what i did was imagine a piece of black paper, on the paper was an eye (representing the third eye), as i concentrated on this eye i would slow down my breathing as well. after a couple of weeks of doing that i would try to imagine that same eye in the middle of my forehead. the entire time i'm imagining this i would continue to slow down my breathing.
i knew i was doing it right when some of my "symptoms" after meditating were confirmed.

1. One of the first experiences is a headache or pressure in the center of the forehead. This sensation may also feel like it is originating from within, usually an inch or more beneath the surface of the forehead. This is a positive indication the pineal gland is awakening and beginning to function in a healthy manner. *Some people can experience a migrane lasting several hours. The severity of the side effects will depend on how atrophied your pineal gland is to begin with.

2. After the occurence of headache or pressure in the forehead, you may wake up one morning with a throbbing or tingling sensation in your forehead; it may feel like a goosebump. The feeling may be very intense like something is there. The sensation of pulsing or throbbing will continue throughout the day. This is the final physiological event you will experience after opening the third eye. It indicates your pineal gland is awakened, functioning and alive.

its on the second page in case you want to read the topic in its entirety.

Thanks for sharing the link, Dark Abyss!

I've been trying to improve lately.. I've come to the conclusion that I can't just start off with silence. My mind ends up going all over the place in no time. So..
I've made up a "level up!" system.

Levels:
1. Listen to 5 min meditation track without getting distracted.
2. 10 min.
3. 15 min.
4. 20 min.
5. Meditate in silence for 5 min without getting distracted.
6. 10 min.
7. 15 min.
8. 20 min.

I just thought of this a few days ago, so I'm still just at level 1. I have noticed that I've gotten better, though! At first, I could barely shut my mind up, but the last time I tried I only got distracted a few times. :D
