Visualization Exercises

For those of you who are struggling with seeing, hearing, feeling, even smelling (yes spirits often give off scents) your spirits, Visualization will help with this. I do suggest casting a circle, throwing up a shield, or having a spirit or servitor do it for you, before starting any of these exercises.

Level 1:

First of all, what is visualization? It is a skill which means that everyone can learn it and improve it through practice. It is the ability of imagining things, building things in one's mind. This skill involves creativity and imagination, and consequently improving visualization will improve the other two correlated skills. The greater the details of the mental images you create, the greater the skill. Creative visualization is a very important ability which you may have in order to expand your mind, and open one's inner sight. It is the number one ingredient for successful spirit communication and is the basis for servitor construction.

Your spirit senses are like a muscle, the more you work them, the more it comes naturally to flex them. Basically, spiritual muscle memory. This also opens up your mind in many other ways. It will improve your overall memory, your ability to pick up on small details you might of otherwise overlooked, help you to see situations in a broader sense from multiple angles, and give you the ability to create spaces/places for you to interact with your spirits or servitors.

Exercise 1:

Find a comfortable place to relax. Be sure that you will not be interrupted. As you progress in practice, you will be able to meditate and visualize even at a rock concert. Close your eyes and take some deep breaths in order to start relaxing your mind.

You will need something familiar to you. Your keys, your phone, something dear to you. Take this item and study it carefully, see all of it's minute details. Now, set it in front of you and imagine that you have shrunk down with the ability to fly. Begin flying around the object in your mind, look at the object closely, study it's surface, imagine touching it, feeling it's surface below your hands. Maybe it has a smell, imagine smelling that now. Let the memories that come with the sight, smell, and feeling of the object come into your mind. For this exercise it is ok to let your mind wander abit in these memories, but always gently pull your mind back to the object, and try to keep the memories happy. The reason we want to have memories attached to this exercise is that it always easier to create neural path ways when you can connect them to strong pathways that have already been created, and memories with emotions make very strong pathways, because we visit them over and over again.

Exercise 2 :

Now we will close our eyes and imagine the object in front of us, again, we have shrunk down and the object is huge and looms before us. We will again fly around it and look at it from every angle, smell it if it has a scent, feel it, taste it if it has a taste. Try to get a feel for the energies contained within the object, the emotional energy, and thus the memories attached to those emotions, always gently coming back to the object. We next see the object shrink down to it's regular size, and we pick it up. We see ourselves using or playing with the item as we normally would. What sounds do you hear when you are using the item? The smells perhaps? See and feel the object as if you are actually holding it. If you find your mind wandering, that's ok, just gently steer it back. Never demand your focus to return, you'll just end up fighting it. Gently push your focus back, acknowledged any imagery you see, then steer back. After a while put the item down and let your focus shift back to the room you are in. Get up, walk around, eat something, go to the bathroom, or whatever you feel like to ground yourself. This is not a timed exercise, just do it for as long as you can whether that be one minute or an hour, or more if feel up to it. Each time you practice this you will be able to do it longer, see more detail, taste, and smell more. Practice at home and out in the world. Your mind is going to wonder through the day, might as well put that time to good use. You will find more and more that you can focus on these objects more, and outside as well as inside distractions will not intrude as much till not at all. And if they do, just simply, gently, steer your focus back.

Level 2:

Now, pick a person you know very well. You can choose one of your close relatives or your best friend or whomever you like. Absolute requirement is to know this person so well so you can recognize them very easily. You do exactly what you did in first exercises. You first study the person in detail, and for this purpose, I suggest working with someone you are close to that you can explain this exercise to. That way you won't creep them out by staring them down. If this is not possible, just casually study your friends or family, trying to take in every detail you can about them. Then you try to see with closed eyes this person live in front of you, as you did with the object you chose for the first two exercises.

Focus on the details of their face first and then move to their body. See them from behind, zoom in and zoom out, cycle them 360 degrees. Let memories surface about this person, then let them go, steering your focus back to what they look like.

When you have a clear picture of the person, try to change their clothes. Imagine that they wear your favorite clothes. See if they look good or bad. See if the clothes fit to their bodies or not. Then try to change them hair styles. Make your self laugh by dressing them up funny. Make new emotional memories, new neural pathways. Again, this is not timed, do it as long as you feel you can. With time and practice you will be able to make the person you are visualizing move around and see them doing things they normally would.

Level 3:

Imagine your favorite place in the whole world. Where you are the happiest, where you feel the most safe. Imagine the people closest to you, maybe having them hold you or you hold them. Imagine everything you can about this place. The sights, the sounds, the smells, the tastes, the memories from those senses. Imagine you are living in this very second in that space, making it your own space. Feel your energy go out into that space, feel it bounce back. Interact with the objects, hear the sounds, feel the emotions you feel from being in that space. Soak it all in. Try to make the space feel as real as the room you are actually in. Feel or hear the weather outside. How does it make you feel? What emotion arise from seeing or feeling this weather? Immerse your whole self into this space. And when you are ready, shift your attention back to where you are, get up, and ground yourself. Its ok to fall asleep during these exercises, it just means your body was tired and needed rest. Just try again when you are more rested. Every time you imagine this space, try to see some detail you didn't see before, or smell a smell you didn't smell before, and so on. Don't be surprised if one of your spirits or servitors pops in for a visit in your space you imagined. Often times they have an easier time reaching out to you when you aren't concentrating on them. Why? We often set up expectations when reaching out and that sometimes blocks us from true communication. Now, I'm not saying not to try and connect to them, I'm just saying it is sometimes easier without any expectations. It bocomes like a welcomed surprise visit from a dear friend.

Level 4:

Think of your favorite movie. Got it? Now I challenge you to watch that movie and try to pick up on every detail you can. What the characters do, how they make you feel, what the scenery looks like, what you think the characters are feeling, thinking, in those moments. Now I want you to play that movie in your head, your favorite scenes over and over. The ones that make you cry, the ones that make you laugh, the ones that make you angry. Until you get to the point you can play the entire movie from start to finish in your mind.

Tier 1:

Now, play the movie, but this time you are your favorite character. Feel how you think they would feel, react how you think they would react. Play out the whole movie as that character. Feel yourself actually in that world.

Tier 2:

Now play as the character you like the least and repeat the exercise from tier 1 noticing details you didn't last time. Once you have this down, expand out to other movies. The best ones to use are the ones that brought out the most emotion in you.

I hope this helps some of you, and others that have gone through similar exercises helps give you a refresher. If I get a good response from this tutorial, I will post Visualization 2. Hope this helps. Blessed Be.

You are most welcome. I will be working on the next part soon and will be posting it as soon as I get everything together. The next step involves building one's own inner temple and working with your spirits there.

Great exercise :) Funny thing is I've done all of that stuff my whole life. It was only talking to people and learning about the paranormal that I discovered that visualization was not something everyone could do. To me it's always been like breathing. It's why reading and writing is so much fun for me. I'm in my 30's and I still daydream constantly. Trust me, visualization is a great thing, and not just for spirits. It can be a sanity saver too :)

On the flip side though every time I get a mental vision of a spirit I'm doubtful because I see that sort of thing all of the time. I tend to worry that I just made it up. I'm working diligently on fixing that though :)

You are most welcome. I am working on getting everything sorted for Visualization 2, The Inner Temple. The next exercises will assist you in setting up your inner temple as a place to visit your spirits, commune with your God/Gods/Goddesses, and as a place to center yourself and explore your own power. I will be posting it soon!

Same here on having done visualization like that through my whole life (agreed on the sanity saving daydreaming part, I even wonder sometimes if what I create as a daydream gets participated by any of my spirit companions or someone else, they do feel after the experience like I really have gone through them in the physical and emotional sense), and that's why I do wonder at times if what I see or hear is just something popping out from my own mind... Especially the hearing part, my seeing I do trust fairly much, hearing not really yet... ~smiles shy
