System of Magic

Postby Opelia Rendon » Thu Aug 30, 2018 11:20 am

Hello everyone. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post. . .if not my bad x D

Does anyone have a recommended book on any magick system?

Also, does anyone here think that one of your own spirits/entities already knows about a magick and may be willing to teach you about it? I haven't asked on of my spirits/entities yet, but I will.

Appreciate all answers

Christopher Penzack for wiccan related magick

Jason Miller for a more secular type of magick, though he does work with Hecate

Gordon White, Phil Hine, Peter J Carroll, and Taylor Ellwood for chaos and pop culture magick

Judika Illes for traditional magick

Over the years I have read a lit of authors but these particular authors I have taken away useful knowledge from and so would recommend them. I didn't really put authors like Alistair Crowley, Dion Fortune, Mathers, Blavasky, etc bc unless you have a pressing need to learn ceremonial magicks or Theospical teachings they can be dry reading.

Do you mean Gordon White from the Rune Soup podcast? I love that show! Highly recommend subscribing. :)

Yes!! He wrote two books and I've read The Chaos Protocols but haven't picked up his other book StarShips yet. His blog is also amazing and full of a ton of interesting info.

Thanks for the answers! This is really uber vague, but are there any mainly "Earthen" type magick systems?

You mean creating golems, tulpa and servitor from earth? Or you talking about magick from planet earth? It would be better is you have something you wish to accomplish in mind stated and then let people think about it rather then playing guessing game though. Hope this is not "i actually know what i want but i am shy to say it out so i gonna play hint and guess game with the whole forum" kinda thing.

How do we define "magick system"?

Sorry. I didn't mean a "game." I had the Huestrology done and "Earthen" magick was done listed on it. I am equally left in the dark what that was supposed to mean. I will contact CH's help center on that though.

I'm not sure what an actual practitioner would call them, but you know like for example: Hoodoo, Wicca/Wiccan & Ars Goetia and a few others. I was trying to find a few more names of magickal practices so I can do my own research. Or at least get a better idea.

*Sigh, I may have to join a coven. *

Not that there's anything wrong with being in one, I'm sure there's bonuses being around like minded people; though, I'm more of a solidarity practitioner (feels most comfortable.)

Just putting it out there that covens generally are more about practicing their one path and not so much about educating on the various paths out there. Also, CH has some... 'unique' ideas about magical paths that don't exactly mesh or make sense to someone who's studied the more commonly known paradigms out there. Checking their encyclopedia, Earthen magic would refer to that originating from our physical plane and planet. doom_star gave some pretty good recommendations, and the Sacred Texts website has a plethora of resources you can check out as well.
