As a teenager I found a great deal of comfort in the story of Patrick Dennis's crazy Auntie Mame. I identified with her character's free way of thinking, ability to always end up on her feet, and weather any storm.

Patrick Dennis was born Edward Everett Tanner III and his bestseller Auntie Mame sold 5,000 copies a week and spent 112 weeks as a bestseller! In his later years he left his pen to become a butler and was the butler for McDonald's legend Ray Kroc, however the Krocs didn't know that their faithful servant "Tanner" was the esteemed author.

He was remembered for his book as much as he was remembered for his bi-sexuality that gave him a wife and children and also a following in the Greenwich Village scene. Unfortunately he passed early at age fifty-five of pancreatic cancer but he left behind the marvelous Auntie Mame to be enjoyed and loved by audiences and readers worldwide eternally.
