What's the tale? Winchester Mystery House is home to the ghost of Sarah Winchester, the original owner and builder. She was the heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune and with those monies she built the most incredible mansion one has ever seen. It is has staircases that lead nowhere, doors in the floors, eerie angles and architecture that breed the emotions of fear. If you are easily frightened this is not the place for you, but for those of you who want a spine-chilling experience you must make the trip. You can see the house here
What do we know as fact? The house was built by the widow of Winchester Repeating Arms Company heir William Winchester, her name was Sarah Lockwood (Pardee) Winchester. They only had one child, a daughter, together who had died at six months and William died of tuberculosis. Upset and seeking answers Sarah consulted with a psychic in Boston who told her that her misfortunes were the result of being the heiress of money made from guns. She said the souls of those killed by a Winchester firearm were attached to her and the only way to keep them from causing her further grief was moving to the west coast and building a house that could never be finished. Thus spawned a construction project no one has ever matched that lasted 38 years. This explains the weird construction of the home.
Thoughts: Whether or not the home houses the ghost of Sarah Winchester, the construction workers or the spirits of anyone killed by a Winchester firearm it is evident that the house on its constructional merit alone is spooky and is going to cause anyone to be unsettled when going through it. There has been enough documentation of people visiting the home or taking care of the home who have experienced strange things to warrant the home's status as haunted.Tags: Winchester Mystery House
