Spirit Keeping is not evil or slavery by any measure. It is a mutually beneficial and mutually voluntary relationship. You choose to be a Keeper with your own freewill, and a spirit chooses to be kept by you with their own freewill.
This is by no means a religious action; people of all beliefs may welcome spirits into their lives. Creepy Hollows regularly serve many people from many different religions who are happy Spirit Keepers.
