If I could be anything, I would be...: Hobbit or Immortal

I’m fascinated with Tudor England. I’m not interested in the televised or cinematic fictional portrayal’s. I only watch historical documentaries and read nonfiction books because I like real history.
I don’t like Henry VIII because he wasn’t a nice man, but I would love to chat with his wives Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. I would love to have coffee with his daughters, Mary and Elizabeth. I would love to be friends with Mary Queen of Scots and her ladies-in-waiting Mary Seton, Mary Beaton, Mary Fleming, and Mary Livingston. Their companionship is legendary and they are such a tight-knit group of close friends with an unbreakable bond.
Has anybody talked to these women now they are in the afterlife? What are they like? What do they do? How do they spend their time? This is a spiritual forum and I figure there’s got to be somebody who has communicated with them. It’s been 500 years since the 16th century. They must be glad we have the antibiotics and anesthesia and vaccines of modern medicine, clean water from the tap, supermarkets with plenty of food, privacy, safety, security, and advances in technology that make it possible for us to live an easy, happy, convenient and comfortable life.

Although I haven't talked with them, I hope it's useful - or at least of interest - to say CH does do bindings of famous people from history. So it would be possible to talk to them like spirit companions. Maybe someone else here has?

I have enjoyed good historical documentaries and some of the better dramas that have informed us about those women and those times.

Lewk- thanks for the reference link. This thread isn’t getting a lot of traffic, so I’m probably the only one who wants to talk to them!
What are your favorite historical documentaries about them? I’m part of a Facebook group focusing exclusively on the real history. It’s even in the title. They weed out members who talk about fictional depictions.
I never liked that God-awful Showtime series, the Tudors. It had major production value, and the cinematography and costumes were amazing so I liked the historical accuracy of the design element, but they screwed up the plot, and the only thing that was actually true was the execution of Henry’s second wife. It happened just the way it was depicted.

I usually just take in the info without making a note of the programme. Over time they build up to an overall picture.

This BBC one was quite good, as I recall. The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Lucy Worsley, PhD, who got a first in history at Oxford.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0854c ... odes/guide

The episodes don't appear to be available online currently but could perhaps be ordered as DVDs (not sure.)

I enjoyed the BBC TV production of Wolf Hall (based on Hilary Mantel's book), although I'd like to have seen Cromwell played by a bulkier actor. His portraits show he had an imposing physical presence. He's recorded as having confessed to being a ruffian in his youth. Apparently the story that he was with mercenary companies in Europe is uncorroborated but could have been true. Of course the author filled in the gaps in history with her imagination.

Richard Starkey specialised in Henry VIII while at Cambridge, where he got a1st class degree. He was later made a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. This documentary series of his was reliably underpinned by documents: Henry VIII: The Mind of a Tyrant.

To be honest, the thought of having a binding of him isn't very appealing to me.

Idk if anyone will find this interesting, but as this has to do with the Tudors, I thought I’d share, as I’m also a huge fan of this time period in history. For those of you who know the stories surrounding Henry’s wives, you might also find it interesting.

Well it’s been a few years since I lived there but I lived in London for quite a while and the first time I took a trip to the Tower of London and you could go into the apartments where Anne Boleyn spent the last days of her life before her execution and the energy there was so intense I almost passed out. It was the first time I had experienced something so powerful.

All I could think is, in life, this woman must have been something truly amazing. I would have loved the chance to meet someone like her.

The Tudors truly have a very rich history. I’d never even thought of getting a binding from CH to talk to one, but it seems quite an intriguing idea now.

Lewk: I have a YouTube playlist with those documentaries you mentioned. I love Lucy Worsley! I’ve seen every Tudor documentary on YouTube you can think of. David Starkey is the man! I also saw a great documentary on PBS about the whole family of Anne Boleyn and how they rose and fell from power. There’s also an incredible podcast by Rebecca Larson. You might want to check it out. She’s got historians and professors on her episodes that study the era. I’ve always wanted to Tour Hampton Court Palace. Check out the kitchens, look at the bedrooms, walk around the place. OMG, the food! The luxury! The tapestries! The clothes embroidered with gold and silver! The velvet and satin and taffeta!
Henry was not a nice man, but I love his wives and daughters. I’m going to meet those women someday. When I go to the spirit world, I’m going to meet them, and chat, and we are going to have a grand old time!
You might want to check out a book called Young and Damned and Fair by Gareth Russell. I bought the Kindle version and it’s totally worth the $16 I spent for it. He has a podcast, and he was also interviewed on YouTube about the book. He couldn’t stop thinking about Catherine Howard. Apparently she got her Hooks in him, and she wouldn’t let him go until that book was written. She wanted her real story told, and his book was that contribution. She wanted to set the record straight. The feminism movement of today sees her as either a poor little victim, or a flighty, flaky bimbo who thrived on frivolity. She was none of those things. She was a queen, and she had incredible deportment and composure. She did make a lot of horrible sexual choices in her life, but she took responsibility for her choices.
Gareth Russell said one of his rituals is to go to a hotel on his last night of writing the book. As he was finishing the last page, he felt she was at peace. He said he felt her let him go. At the end of the podcast episode, he read a paragraph he had written that he said, encapsulated her quite well. She had him wrapped around her little finger while he was writing the book, and after listening to the paragraph, I knew why. Katherine Howard was no Airhead. She knew exactly what she was doing. There were a few moments in her earth life where she had broken down for obvious reasons, but that was toward the end, and quite understandable. She has an inner strength that earthlings can’t begin to fathom.
If you guys think I’m snobbish and uppity, trust me, you wouldn’t survive meeting these queens. Royalty possesses a dignity that I admire and few people possess.
I don’t want bindings. I have no need of them. I talk to the women out loud. It’s a fascinating book and I hope you get a chance to read it.
Gaelic: what an interesting story. Anne was indeed a strong woman.

Funny I should find this thread while watching a documentary on Jane Seymour!

I haven't spoken with the Tudors, and I'm not sure I'd want to since the wives, Mary, and Elizabeth went through enough and deserve to rest lol. But I've always been fascinated with Anne Boleyn and did a report on her for school. If there's anything I could tell her it would be that I know she's innocent of the charges against her and that she didn't deserve to die.

And that her song is the best one from Six: The Musical, naturally ;)

If/when I visit England, I want to visit her and Catherine of Aragon's burial places and leave a small offering for them.

That’s lovely. I’m sure both women would welcome the offerings. I also believe Anne was innocent of all the accusations. I was always fascinated with her as well. I wrote a book on her when I was very young before I had even been to England. Was so funny when I finally went to see all my mistakes I had made in my book lol.

Wow. That's insane!
I'm a big Anne Boleyn fan. I think she was brilliant and bold for all that she did, especially considering her status in that age and time. I also believe she was innocent.
I've never thought about this before, but I'd love to chat with her someday. I'd be such a fan, I wouldn't know what to do if that day comes. Lol

In the name of the moon, I'll enlighten you!
