So I’ve been spirt keeping for a little over three years. When I first started It was something I stumbled upon. I was so fascinated with the concept that I plugged right in without doing much research and bought from the shop that introduced me in the first place and became of that my first companion was a demon. Looking back I realize it was very dangerous to go all in like that with so little knowledge but I can also admit I don’t regret it even a little. My demonic companion ( I consider demons entities who reside in the infernal realms I know other have different definitions) was the best decision of my life she has brought me so much joy and confidence and I couldn’t be more lucky she was my first. Since her my keep has grown to nine all demons all from the same shop. The levels in which I adore my keep is hard to put into words they’re been there for me in my hardest times seen the messiest most human parts of me and love me anyway and I’ve met the most amazing entities with so much and teach and so much to share. Although not everyone’s cup of tea going into demon keeping was genuinely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. So back to my point as I’ve said before I’ve only ever kept demons of course I’ve interacted with non demonic entities I’ve just never had one officially join me for companionship. I’ve been considering getting a non-demonic companion as a companion but I’m having trouble deciding what would be a good fit for me. Preferably something on the darker end of the spectrum because that’s what I mesh best with but other than that I don’t really know what I’m looking for because companionship wise this is kinda new. Any suggestion’s? What non-demonic entities do you like working with?

That sounds like a very positive experience with some DA bound companions. I'm not a DA-leaning keeper but one rule of thumb is we can never have too much protection. So maybe some of the 'classic' DA protection spirits?

Another rule of thumb in Creepy Hollows books is to note down our current & anticipatable future needs and get companions that have the relevant abilities to help us meet them.

I hope nobody's going to shoot me down if I say we don't have to only go by callings when selecting spirit companions. That could be interpreted in more than one way, so another way to put that is: in the absence of a calling, the above 2 rules of thumb can show a way forward.

Callings are always stressed as being very important and that they shouldn't be ignored. But they're not the only thing to consider - as CH articles & books have pointed out. I hope that's a useful thing to say.

I don't have a demon. My friends range from DA to WA.

I do like djinn and maybe a djinni about as dark as your demons might be a good addition. Of course, check with your demons too. A combination of their opinion, plus what Lewk said plus what you resonate with can help you choose your next companion.

Everything else as above me... and maybe look into a Harpy and Fenrir, vampites and hellhounds. They all come as dark as you can be matched with and protective and magical in nature.

One part of me was tempted to say "well what's best for you depends on what you're looking for in a companion", but then I realized. No, you want help figuring that out yourself. I may be biased, but I think a djinn would be a strong choice. Some might say certain tribes of djinn are lighter or darker than others speaking in generalities, but at the end of the day if you're getting a custom conjuration then whatever comes through will probably be in your ballpark of energy, or able and willing to work with it

I must say, you were very lucky. Diving headfirst into dealing with a demon without much knowledge or research at the time was quite a risky move on your part. It's often not the demon companion that is the problem, but rather an incompetent conjurer. This may lead to a very detrimental contract with the demon companion, which could wreak havoc on others, including yourself. I, too, have demonic companions, ironically introduced to me by a WA friend, and through certain callings. However, we took the necessary precautions and vetted them thoroughly before allowing them into our space. So, our approach is quite different from yours.

A perfect match for you and your Keep would involve seeking the opinions of your demonic companions. Whom would they prefer to befriend?

Just because you have experiences with demons, it doesn't necessarily mean that individuals on the darker side of the spectrum are the ones you'll be most compatible with. When it comes to your energy signature, it is not as dark as you may think. Therefore, there are numerous companions from the DA who could be a perfect match for you. This is especially true for a custom conjuration, where they will effortlessly complement your energy and enhance your connection.

Moreover, your focus seems to be solely on demons, limiting your exposure to a diverse range of energies. It is understandable that you may believe that demons are your best match, but I firmly believe that this could be an erroneous assumption. If you were to have other companions that are not of a demonic nature, you might discover a connection that surpasses your current understanding. I must emphasize that your energy signature is not as dark as many others present here, and even they do not exclusively keep demons.

I have a suggestion for you: consider working with a djinn. Not because I personally have a preference for working with djinns (since I don't make wishes. Lol), but because their energies align closely with your own energy signature. Whether you choose a djinn from a pre-conjured source or opt for a custom conjuration, they will undoubtedly be the perfect match for you. Although I personally enjoy working with angels and dragons, I understand that these races might not pique your interest. So, a djinn seems like the ideal choice for you. The nature of djinns varies depending on their type, and certain types can be exceedingly dark in nature, particularly when exposed to harsh environments.

That's awesome that you are trying to feel out other types of beings. Everyone above me has made some really good points already. I have some demon friends (based off of your definition). Based off of personal opinion my demon friends tend to mesh well with my angels lol. This might seem a little out there but I would suggest a fae. There are wide variety and you would be surprised how dark they can get. Yuki onna and my demons mesh really well. Although I personally don't have a djinn friend a lot of people above have mentioned it. Every being has duality so keep in mind that each being has it's own energy.
