This is quite possibly one of the strangest things that I have ever seen on ebay & in the meta category yet! :silly:

The first time I read about animal penis bones, it was regarding the raccoon penis bone, specifically. It was a post in the archive of articles that Cat Yronwode (of LuckyMojo fame) had posted:
http://www.luckymojo.com/raccoonpenis.html
The article is full of ways to utilize this bone as well as a history, of sorts. Apparently, it was a well-known love charm in the Ozarks at one point, but others state that it can be used for gambling. It's a pretty well-known charm in folklore for its love/lust purposes - I've heard stories about it from some members of my husband's family and they don't hail from the Ozarks at all.
I thought about purchasing one from CH, just to have one in my home. I probably will, one of these days. I have a weird fascination with bones and skulls, and the phenomenon of certain animals having actual bones in their penises has always been an interesting topic to me in terms of the evolution and dispersion of animals in different groups. I used to do a lot of research in terms of human versus animal sexuality.
The superstition behind things like this always make me wonder... who was the first to try it, what inspired it and by what method did it catch on so quickly? I suppose that can be said of any superstition, really. Or any invention, such as bricks for building. It's always a fun thing to think about.
Another thing I can't help but wonder is... I wonder if that animal knew that his penis bone was going to be used as a charm one day after his death, and I can't help but wonder how he must feel about it in spirit form

They are pretty much all over ebay, especially if you search Raccon penis bone.
In certain cultures it's definitely a staple to have one or more of these around
I take it as most animal spirits no longer need their corporal form and don't mind lending what they can't use anymore to aid someone who needs it It's all about the using of energy, energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only used and given

LOL Thanks  They are in the store as well. We have so many bizarre things around here, we're starting to list some of them. Our bone collection is enough to start our own graveyard.

I have a coyote baculum somewhere around here. You can't go into a voodoo shop in New Orleans and not see baskets and baskets of raccoon baulums.
I remember reading that somewhere it was common for a man to make a necklace with them and give it his sweetie when they were courting. How is that for serious romantic intentions?
