They enjoy climbing, warm spots to sit (though not too warm, for cresties), and exploring, but the usual reptile reaction to being stroked is "BLEAGH SOMETHING IS TOUCHING ME". lol...

I've heard that about some larger monitor lizards, too. Of course, they're all individuals, not all iguanas like to be touched. Occasionally people say their bearded dragon likes it.
My ball pythons do this rolling flinch in the wake of your hand if you pet them, so I would say, they're not thrilled, lol.

While I don't handle little bitty (2 grams) 'Myles' other than during our once a week kritter keeper cleaning (too stressful for him/her & me, Myles is super fast & flighty for now), but my big boy 'Ghost' (35.2 grams) & much smaller 'Morzanna' (9.2 grams) really seem to njoy being out of their vivariums & hanging out with me. I won't claim they like to be stroked, they don't care for that, but the tolerate me examining & touching them all over. My Ornate Uromastyx 'Gaara' on the other hand likes to hav his neck rubbed, anywhere else on his body gets his wiggle though (its so cute! When upset they wiggle back & forth like a snake).

I think it's a reflex that evolved to help them shoo away insects that land on them.

I don't dare risk rubbing a monitor lizard on its head... i doubt I can react fast enough when it gets annoyed. I agree though, not all the iguanas liked it. I found that it's mostly some males who are alright with it, but the females go 'you gotta be kidding me' and run off. I tried this with a Tokay and it got real cranky *KAP*

Ouch! Tokays don't play. :lol: They can be pretty nasty when they want to be. I worked at a pet store a few years ago that sold them & I would pray the entire time I cleaned their enclosure that t would go well.
