The knife doesn't do anything, you are. You are the will and intent behind it. It's just a tool, no dark arts or anything about it. (I doubt you would say guns kill people and not people do that)
It was an example I used, I didn't define it as purely the ability to cause pain, it was to point out the ability to choose one of two options instead of only ever being able to have one option.
You're not oversimplifying it, you're zoning in on the pain/harm aspect like a shark does on injured prey miles away. As I said, it can as simply be used with the hugging example or anything nice. BA won't do that, DA may or may not do it, WA will do it provided they know you although I wouldn't personally ask for a hug from the archangels, they would probably look at me all judgemental like.
