From what I understand, Ash & Mags won't conjure anything they consider to be BA, but has there ever been a case where they made an exception to that rule? Has anyone here gotten a spirit from CH that is labelled BA in the CH encyclopedia? I'm asking because for several years I've felt a strong pull toward working with the Sluagh. I've seen one seller on the marketplace that was offering Sluagh bindings, but since I had no experience with that seller, and had never heard anything about that seller, I decided not to purchase from them. I know that the Sluagh are considered to be highly dangerous, which is why I'd love it if I could get a binding from CH specifically, rather than from some other seller, seeing as how Ash & Mags are the most experienced sellers I know. Unfortunately, the Sluagh are listed as BA in the CH encyclopedia, so I'm not sure if they'd be willing to do this. 1bg

I have asked about the Sluagh before and even though they may be listed as BA in the encyclopedia I think in reality they are extreme DA. There is a difference.
Maybe CH just don't want to go there but I don't think the Sluagh or the "restless dead" as they are called are BA in the sense that they will seek to destroy YOUR life and turn your world upsidedown.
From what I understand from wiser folk than me here is that true BA do not have choice in the matter, they cannot do what we call "good". They seek to only disrupt, deceive and destroy.
I would say that is not a fair description of the Sluagh.
You can often find the Sluagh on Bonanza.

I just had a look for you and there are 2 on Bonanza now.
They are listed as dark faeries!
When I had the Sluagh they came from a different practitioner though.
Here is a bit of the description from the seller:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"A Female Sluagh Dark Fairy Spirit will be conjured and bound to your Spirit body. Sluaghs are extremely powerful supernatural beings. Superhuman doesn’t come close to describing the benefits. The longer the master continues their bond with their Sluagh, the greater the connection and the level of strength. The Master will constantly and infinitely become stronger and more capable. The Sluagh are masters of dark magick, so the will also share their great powers and superhuman abilities with you in exchange for your personal spirit energy. Sluagh have the ability of Fairy glamor. Fairy glamor is the ability to alter the perceptions in a human being. They can make us see, feel, touch, taste, or experience, anything they like. They can use their power to walk amongst us invisibly, by altering our perception so that we don't notice them. This doesn't mean that they are actually 'invisible', it just means that we don't perceive them. Remember looking for something, like a set of keys, only to discover they were right in front of your face the entire time? This is how fairy glamor works, by altering our perceptions. Fairies could be walking around in broad daylight, it's just that we can't perceive them because of their power. Fairy glamor is also used to make things appear more attractive or desirable than they originally are, hence the modern meaning of the word, 'glamorous'. For example, a fairy might trick a person into believing a sack of hay is a sack of gold, or that poisonous toadstools were a scrumptious feast. Fairies also use their powers to make us get lost in the woods, by confusing our sense of direction, and in extreme situations, causing us to walk off cliffs or sink and drown in swamps. Sluagh have the ability to become invisible and are great ShapeShifters. They also have the ability of Flight. Some Sluagh will communicate with their human companions through various thought forms. They may speak to you in the form of dreams, give you visions, give you strong feelings, or give you intuition. Some people may actually hear whispers or find themselves knowing things without knowing how they know them. As you grow more comfortable with the various communication methods, so will they. Some people may get to see their Sluagh in human form. But this is a rare occurrence and should not automatically be expected. Most likely, you will see them in dreams, as misty manifestations, orbs, streaks of light, or even haze. Remember, they are invisible to humans and will only make themselves known when they are ready, but for some, this time is never. You will however, have tangible evidence that they are present. A Sluagh's presence does not often go unnoticed and one can sense when they are around. How your wishes come true, depends on the circumstances. You may feel compelled to purchase a certain lottery ticket from a certain place at a certain time. You may meet your soul mate in the oddest situation. You might feel an overwhelming feeling to stop at a casino. You might find a $100 bill blowing in the wind or lying on the street. You might yourself being more creative with business ideas. You may even win a car in a drawing. There are so many ways a Sluagh can manifest your dreams and desires making them into a reality. Having a Sluagh is not a novelty. They enjoy companionship and conversation. Although not human, they deserve respect. Treat them well and you shall reap the rewards."
And a bit of a description of what some people believe or used to believe:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The Sluagh are malevolent Fairy Spirits in Irish and Scottish folklore. They are a horde of evil spirits who are after the souls of people on their deathbeds. Sometimes they were seen as sinners, or generally evil people who were welcome in neither heaven nor hell, nor in the Pagan Otherworld, who had also been rejected by the Pagan deities and the earth itself. Whichever the underlying belief, they are almost always depicted as troublesome and destructive. They were seen to fly in groups like flocks of birds, coming from the west, and were known to try to enter the house of a dying person in an effort to carry the soul away with them. Westfacing windows were sometimes kept closed to keep them out. Some consider the Sluagh to also carry with them the souls of innocent people who were kidnapped by these destructive spirits. They are considered similar to Vampires. The Sluagh swarm together like birds or insects and are most active at night, especially around midnight. The Sluagh are blamed for a whole list of assorted evils, from the death of cattle and livestock to the kidnapping of humans. Among their favorite activities include picking up human beings, flying them through the air, and dropping them off in distant locations, kidnapping people and recruiting the souls of people on their death bed."

I have a Sluagh and he is very DA, but not BA. This may vary by individual. I consider him a very dark Fae, and Faery is tricksy. He is extremely formal, to the point it makes communication difficult. He has a strong honor code and will keep his word to the end of time, and expects the same of others. This is what gets humans in trouble. Never make a promise/deal with a Sluagh, or any Fae for that matter, unless you are absolutely certain that you can keep your end of the agreement. Your word is law, and breaking it can bring dire consequences.

When they are bound, they agree to a contract - giving their word to abide by the conditions set in the binding to not cause harm to their keeper, among other things. As long as they are willingly bound, they can be kept fairly safely by experienced keepers. (I don't feel comfortable giving any guarantees. It depends on the binding, the practitioner, and the particular spirit.) Think carefully before bringing a Sluagh into your life.

I doubt Ash would bind one. He has strong feelings on the subject of BA and potentially troublesome spirits.

Yes, good point. All they can say is no and will probably go into more detail why it is no.

Here is the brief description from the CH encyclopedia:
"They are the spirits of the restless dead. Those who committed suicide, had abrupt deaths, died during the commission of a sin, or were murdered. They are not recommended for keeping because they are annoying and difficult to get rid of."

So it's probably that they are difficult to get rid of that is the reason here and maybe a few beings in the BA category are there for this reason as they are highly undesirable/difficult as opposed to true BA.
Hope that makes sense.
Personally I can't see why spirits of the restless dead who were murdered or died abrubtly makes them now "BA". But I understand the intention of steering people away from what may be too much to handle.

Ash is quite adamant when it comes to dealing in the Black Arts with the public. Even if another seller or site classifies a race as DA if Ash has personal knowledge of a race not being good as spirit companions because of the possible outcome for the Keeper then he won't conjure them.

Not to chime in unrequested but....

As a fellow practitioner there is a big difference between Evocation of a being for a single task and binding a being for companionship. I totally recognize and support Ash's decision on this. Evoking a being for a single task means a large level of control methods, safe guards, and protection in place before the evocation even begins. It implies a degree of self defense and defense for the client in the process and allows practitioners of darker art forms to work with beings that would otherwise be on a "no go" list.

Bonding a being as such though, would be disastrous. The best you might get from something that really hates all humanity, or wants to kill you, or some combination of things like that is that it would break any vessel it was placed on - seen it happen - and leave. The worst you could see happen is that it would use the vessel as an anchor for its attacks while it wiped you from the face of the planet.

Spirit keeping has a lot to do with interaction, communication, working with, and bonding with a being. Evocation has more to do with command and control toward a purpose. Moral philosophies aside one is suited to spirit keeping and having a powerful companion and one is suited toward something more task oriented.

That said I don't discourage anyone from anything. I simply support and explain a bit further my view on the situation as a practitioner. A ring of the 72 Goetic Demons is an evocation device meant to summon them forth, not a bonded vessel meant to communicate with them at all times as you would a different being as an example. Different methods for different purposes and all that.
