Can alcohol be helpful in meditation or not, if it does not exceed 0.5% or 2.8%? Just a thought I didn’t get the chance to mention last time. I read it has a ‘relaxing effect’ on your brain depending on how that would apply.

Somebody mentioned it made them more open to external things but less open to their own self or feelings.

I did some research into pre-industrial beers and wines looking at how it’s said they were ‘more open’ or meditated easier, most of the time the alcohol percentage never exceeded 0.5% or 2.8% and in Norse cultures the higher amount was actually 9% really.

In churches they make people drink wine for communion.

Interesting thought..
I shot of whiskey to relax you into deeper meditation. If it doesn't work just enjoy more whiskey!

You can’t have too much though apparently. Just a 0.5% or below standard drink enough to relax you if it works for helping you in meditation.

Larger quantities would be for potion making in cases depending.

I think it would be worth a try at least. Nice legal alternative to the forbidden plant if it works

These are my statements on all mind-altering substances as entheogens in magick. And I stick with them here too:

A famous Tai Chi Grandmaster, Cheng Man Ching, whose entire life focus was on the mystical spiritual Chi, used to have a single shot of whisky before doing calligraphy. He said it opened up the chi. I think he was generally against drinking in the usual sense, so his students were interested in that explanation.

I think this is similar to the muscle relaxant effect a small shot of alcohol has. It also stimulates appetite.

But...most techniques of meditation I'm familiar with...and after 45 years that's quite a few...require clear mental awareness. Just as driving a car does. Meditation is about using and keeping your awareness, rather than dulling it. Even when you're in deep relaxation or theta state and move away from the normal waking state of mind.

Of course a lot depends on what we each mean when we use the word 'meditation'. Alcohol isn't evil. It has it uses and its proper place in certain rites. I wouldn't call a hallucinogenic trip meditation, although it clearly affects a person's awareness, puts them in an altered state and can give them impressive experiences, including of the spirit world.

A prominent occultist I know of can imbibe tiny amounts of a substance (nearly homeopathically small) and meditate on them and get a hit from them. It must be like a highly specialised form of empathy. But this depends on them using the sensitivity of their awareness.

I never meditate while under the influence of alcohol. I wait until it has worn off. That doesn't mean I don't do 'spiritual' or psychic stuff while under the influence. For most of my life now I have been spiritually or psychically etc switched on 24hrs a day, 365 days a year, and am continually in that mode, one way or another. But I would always suggest avoiding alcohol before a meditation session.

I remember one day I decided to have a glass of wine after dinner and I was going to meditate afterwards. After the wine had kicked in (even just one glass) I felt that I would not be able to meditate effectively, as alcohol seems to dull my senses and blind my third eye. Due to this I would not recommend it, but that is a highly subjective point of view.

You know what else just crossed my mind? If I’m planning on doing Tarot readings, I monitor my caffeine intake before and during. Too much caffeine leads to scattered thought processes, plus it's a diuretic so you could start down the road to dehydration by going overboard with caffeinated drinks.

Speaking of hydration, make sure you’re well-hydrated before and during any big project, be it a reading session, a meditation session, a big casting, or <insert activity here>. It makes a difference.

Small amounts maybe help to relax if you tend to have anxiety and doubts in your head which can cause unsuccessful meditation, but is it really an answer?
Why to cheat yourself with artificial achieving of relaxed state of mind... It's fake!
Better to face your inability to relax and practice more or try different technique. I know some people who spent a years to learn how to relax properly, but when they finally succeed it was real victory! 2cl
Also for those who can't relax without outside "help" like alcohol, drugs and medicines, shadow work is strongly recommended. Man has to realize where from his insecurity, anxiety and doubt evolve, has to literary - meet himself.

Hi Annabelle,

I've seen yous make this statement before, and I'd like to recommend that shadow work is not going to be the answer to everything and will not be a cure all to what hinders you.

Zero~

To the OP,

Drunk meditation, I've done it. Recommend it? Eh. Gonna tell you never do it yourself? Nah, you do you.

I think this is just a subjective practice, so, your mileage may vary.

I will tell you such foul truths and such beautiful lies, you will want to sew my lips shut.
