SPIRIT KEEPING: A GUIDE FOR SPIRIT KEEPERS

Postby gman20001969 » Thu May 03, 2012 6:43 am

I just want to say that this little book is a gem for all beginners like me. It is the "Everything you wanted to know about spirit keeping, but were afraid to ask" book. I've been rereading it for weeks!

Hi

The new updated one is due out this month. It might be worth holding on...?

Don’t be scared. This island is full of noises, strange sounds and sweet melodies that make you feel good and don’t hurt anyone. Sometimes I hear a thousand twanging instruments hum at my ears, and sometimes voices that send me back to sleep even if I had just woken up—and then I dreamed of clouds opening up and dropping such riches on me that when I woke up, I cried because I wanted to dream again. Caliban, The Tempest, Shakespeare

Oooh thanks for saying that I haven't ordered it yet. How do you know the new updated one is coming out? Maybe it's right in front of me and I just didn't see it.

There was a pre-order discount available from the shop for a couple of months, which isn't there now. I have been waiting to see whether there will be an e-book version as well. It's due to be physically published in April, from memory.

I think I had learned most of what was in the older book from reading as much as possible in the forum and encyclopedia. So I'm looking forward to the new book, which I think could be very comprehensive.

The original and advanced spirit keeping guides are a lot more informative and contain more advice and tools (like evocations, invocations, etc). For new spirit keepers, those are definitely the books I would start with.

A lot of the Beginner's Guide text is from stickied forum posts in the Beginner/Newbie area, although perhaps a little more elaborated upon. However, there's definitely stuff there not mentioned in any of the online sources.

The Advanced Guide discusses further things about spirit keeping that have not been elaborated upon elsewhere at all.

The new book is more of a commentary of how becoming a spirit keeper changes your life and your perspective in life. It does have some great invocations in the end for connecting with your spirits that are not in the others, so those alone are a gem that makes it worth buying.

I would also note that the largest book is the Beginner's, then the Advanced, and the new book is very small. I thought there would be more material, honestly.

I like the new one they just put out last month called A Spirit Keepers Journey, which is different from the original and the advanced one, I think that was the one they had on preorder beginning of the year. Which I think is the one Regholdain is talking about, it does have some really good invocations at the end.
