I did some more digging and found out that wights come from Norse folk lore. From what I understand, the term wight is an umbrella term for land spirits which, I believe, explains the different kinds of wights. The closest I got for a house wight is that they basically do the same thing as brownies do.

I haven't developed clairvoyancy, so I can't see him. I didn't like the idea that he hadn't ventured out of the basement at all, so I offered him a strawberry which he loved. That made him happy and got him talking to me when I was trying to fall asleep, lol. Apparently, he'd been in the basement since the house was built several decades ago. He had followed a family from Norway and ended up here and stayed in the basement all of that time.

I told him the house rules and my keep helped him settle in. He did make friends with them so he's a good fit with my keep.
I have had a similar sort of experience twice now with working with unbound entities. One wanted to be bound, and the other (more recently) doesn't really see the point at the moment I don't think. It really makes me feel good about what I am doing and why I am on this path, and it really is amazing and wonderful. These are once-in-a-lifetime experiences that most people never explore.

I love hearing this so much! I am so glad that you are developing this friendship.

Working with bound and unbound spirits is quite the experience and a journey. I have other kinds of unbounds that were here before the house was built. There are two large fairy mushroom rings on the west side of the house. I didn't know that fairies were truly associated with mushroom rings but I learned. I had clues from those spirits so I finally got the idea that they had reached out to me. They prefer to be called Fae of the Rings. This full moon, I plan on offering them sugar as a way of saying hello.

I have Nagas that I already poured an offering of milk by their favourite willow tree. I went back about a couple of hours after that and saw that all of the milk was gone. There wasn't any rain or animals around to lick off the milk so I take it to mean that they accepted the offering.

I also have dryads out in the back 40 (I live on a large acreage) but haven't done anything about them and not sure if I should.

The Nagas don't want or need to be bound. The Fae of the Rings prefer to remain unbound. I suspect the same goes for the dryads.

What fun it is to use telepathy for communication. I made a list of who (a mix of various Deities, Ascended Masters, Ancestral Spirit Guides, spirits and ETs) I can channel and the list is a long one. The Nagas and Fae of the Rings are on the list. I have no idea at this point what they want to tell me. I do have some of my bound spirits on the list too.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if more unbound spirits made their presence known.

Well, I googled "folk lore house wights" which gave me relevant information. I read a description, which clicked, of the house wights being 3 feet tall, a long white beard and wearing a red hat. If you're interested, here are some links. Honouring wights is a way of life for some people but not from a spirit keeping perspective.

After reading those, and a couple more, I found out my house wight likes bananas, milk and cheese so I can offer those instead of just strawberries. I also learned that people make weekly offerings but I wonder if that's excessive.

Male/Female: Male
Number of Spirits: 8
Spelled Number: 21
Your favorite spirit to work with: Sanguine Vampire
If I could be anything, I would be...: Dhampir
My magical/paranormal name...: Christopher Gray
Zodiac:

I'm pretty nervous about letting unbounds wander around my home and I have met many. Those that communicate with me have done so while I was dreaming but made their presence known through other means.

My companions are usually pretty quick to escort an unbound away from our home. Especially if they sense ill will or intentions of harm.

I like to think about unbounds like the stranger that walked into a party they weren't invited to. They could be really interesting or somebody you want to go on their way immediately. But you won't know what their intentions are until you say "Hello".

the description looks similar to brownie, or gnome. Maybe searching about those two terms can shed you some info about him more :D did he tell you what happened to the family he followed?

I looked at brownies and though there's similarities, the house wight keeps saying not that. I haven't looked at gnomes but he says not that, just like he does with the brownies. Seems there's a subtle difference and probably to do with the countries of origin.

As for the family, it's a bit of a sad story. In the end, there were no children or other family members for him to follow so when the last family member passed on, that was it and the house wight remained here.

I leave it up to my keep to determine if an unbound is acceptable or not. My keep moved in before I discovered the spirits of the land and house so this is their home too. I'm not about to kick them out and get them mad at me. I expect them to behave and my keep will continue to maintain the harmony and peace as they've done since the first day they arrived.

I see, sorry to your lil friend, there must be some kind of culturally tied spirits little known to the masses bcs of language barrier... I'm curious whether the apparently similar spirits with different names are energetically different or just following their naming preference 1am

my, how many years since the last passed? Glad you let him stay, I'm on board with allowing resident unbounds stay unless they are bad influence / having malicious intent to me and my family. I put it on my list of house rules too bcs to them my companions are the newcomer, who knows how many years the unbounds have stayed before I settled here. If I do need to banish, I'll try talking them first so they can leave in peace. I haven't met the ones beyond discussion yet though, so I can only speak as far
