I noticed no one ever recommends using a spirit board, it seems like that would be a good Avenue if you already know that there is a particular Spirit nearby who you intend to contact. Unprotected spirit boards are essentially as dangerous as any other unprotected communication method. The problem becomes when something attaches to the spirit board. Short of destroying it by fire and placing the ashes in running water you don't have a way to easily break the attachment. In some cases. That's where Hollywood steps in and makes it worse. LOL

But sure, I agree that's a way. Just have to be mindful just like anything else to make certain that you're not communicating with something else than your spirit companion.

Another way is using Yes/No cartomancy to go through the alphabet the same way until you spell out the names they want.

Or talk about names you think represent them and see what your gut tells you. They don't have to speak to you audibly or telepathically to tell you what they want a nickname to be. You could just as easily get a feeling. Or use light touches, changes in temperature, or any other subtle manifestation to try to do the same thing.

Or ask them to tell you or show you in a dream and sleep on it.

The trick is thinking outside the box, letting go of doubt and expectation, and just taking time to be careful that you're getting a response only from your bound spirit.
