I've been having an interest to try to see if I could communicate with someone- My Paternal grandfather. I had never met him in life as he died before I was born, but.... you know, curiosity of wanting to know what he was like since I get a lot of traits from my dad, and I wanna see how much of that came from him. I don't have current plans to try to bind.... just you know.... summon and talk. I don't know if this is a bad idea or not, and if it isn't, besides putting up a lot of protection and all, any tips for how to try to do it?

Well as long as your protected well enough don't see anything wrong with it at all!

Id have personally used a pendulum as I enjoy using that rather than anything else, one thing you should try is finding something which may have belonged to him if you have anything like that or a photograph to draw a greater connection, Id imagine our relations probably stay close to us afterlife anyways so.. hopefully shouldn't be too hard to get what your after.

An item or two you know came from him wouldn't hurt, help draw his energy.

No harm in trying to connect... you shouldn't have a problem drawing on a connection to him as you are family. Go for it, if you feel it's something you want to do.
