Let me just start by asking, does anyone else find this incredibly creepy? Every time I read something about them I get a chill right in the marrow of my bones. I don't know why but I do. Strange I should find it creepy, but to me it is.

The Racetrack Playa is a salt bed 4.5km long and 2.2km wide. It has very little rainfall and there are about 160 stones in the bed of dried up salt. Some of them are small, while others are up to 700 pounds. What is odd is that there are ghostly tails coming from these rocks showing they are moving along the ground leaving a scratched surface on the salt though no one has ever reported seeing them move. What makes it even more strange is that some of these rocks move very quickly; experts saying some as fast as a few feet per second. They say it is not the work of an outside force (like someone pushing them), and again, no one has ever actually seen these rocks move yet the ghostly tails following them shows they are in fact moving.

There's been many theories along the years ranging from:

* The salt bed is actually sloped & the rocks are moving downhill
* There are magnetic forces at play we can't detect
* The few times it does rain the rain turns to slight ice overnight & the rocks slide
* Strong winds blow the rocks when there is slight ice from rainfall

However, it should be noted that these rocks sometimes not only move a few feet per second but they actually CHANGE DIRECTION!!! Yes, they have been known to make a 90 degree turn...

Geologist Bob Sharp studied the phenomenon between 1968-1974 with absolutely nothing to show for it except confirming that there are times Death Valley has ice & strong winds but NEVER saw the rocks actually move for himself.

So, what is moving the rocks?

Again, creepy.

If I could be anything, I would be...: A house cat
My super power would be...: X-Ray Vision
My magical/paranormal name...: Claire
Zodiac:

I have never heard of it before, but it is creepy.

I have seen my bag hanging on the towel hanger which was horizontal (not sloped at all), slid and moved over the lumps at the end of the hanger and dropped right in front of me... That was creepy.

But what I feel strange is, every time something like this happens, I am scared to death, but on the other hand, I am hoping that it happens again...

Having been there...and it is quite impressive when you think about it...I would think that there has to be some sort of intelligence to this all. The rocks move but only when no one is around. It's almost like an ongoing cosmic chess game.
Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

I've always been curious about those rocks. Is there any reports of people taking a few home and observing them? Eye witness accounts wont really count but would love to catch something on film.

This is real. It is not a fake.
Perhaps, a reasonable reason in geology exists.
