So what you are saying is that the DA spirits are the ones more like humans.
They have more free will?

That's what I'm understanding, from all the reading I've done here and elsewhere.

Well at the end all are Arts, I guess that at some point do you have to learn even Black Arts, to be able to understand and protect yourself if you are into the business at least is what I think so far, starting from now I started with basic and get into with a lot of stuff over there that don't look so white at first sight, but I don't know really yet, just realized that going solo with magick can be a dangerous road.
For example I got 2 haunted items that contains demons on it, and well Just read a post when CH says that Demons are really serious business and that make me think how come that I even feel sympathy for them, that maybe that I'm no so nice like I tought ? .
I really feel attracted to Dark and Black spirits and don't know what exactly is the main if there even exist one, but want to learn more about all that before decide what to do with my demons, because I know that at the end they are entities like humans that can do really twisted stuff if you allow them to do it, but if you know how to take care, then that don't suppose to be an issue, but have to really KNOW, at that isn't my case :scared:
Well for now, I have a better understanding that there are many "Arts" that I used to believe that was.

creepyhollows wrote:White Arts means the spell or spirit is purely good in its intentions; it is not capable of being bad. It is a positive, uplifting, and heart-warming energy. Dark Arts simply means it’s like a human being; capable of being good or bad. In the case of spirits they likely choose to do the right thing, as most humans do, but they have the freedom of choice. Black Arts means the entire intent of the spell or spirit is to be malicious & perform functions of harm to others.

So why do I get so many objections every time I ask if dark arts are defined as being harmful to self and others? That's how it looks to me, right from the definition here in this thread.

Mmm, I think this^ is a slightly limited definition dark arts. It's the ability to decide to do harm, which is why dark arts spirits can be capable of loyalty to their keeper and can be capable of bringing benefits and doing things of benefit to their keeper. They can elect to do harm and elect to withhold from harming. We are talking duality here, shades of grey.Inedible wrote:So why do I get so many objections every time I ask if dark arts are defined as being harmful to self and others? I disagree. The defining characteristic is the ability to choose between doing harm and not doing harm. Subtle nuance, but significant in its implication for spirit-keeping.Inedible wrote:That's the point. With Dark Arts the harm may not be constant, but the possibility is the defining characteristic.

And yet, no one can define Dark Arts without talking about causing harm. I guess people who tend to favor White Arts emphasize the harm in Dark Arts and people who like Dark Arts emphasize the aspect of choice.
