Hey all!
I'm new around here and my experience with spirits is pretty limited and scattered . . . just odd noises without practical causes . . . and a few years back I could swear I'd hear somebody calling my name but no one did nore did anybody else hear it.
But I have a real fondness for foxes and a love of kitsunes, so I made a point to learn everything I could find about them.
CN, it's great your new friend has finally confided her true nature to you . . . but if she hadn't, maybe this could help you and others know just a bit more about these wonderous creatures.
First off, most of this is just what I've piece together from a lot of websites covering kitsune lore, so some of it is still up for debate by those who have truly met one.
First and foremost, the information given on the Chinese Fox, barely even touches what a real Kitsune is.
A true kitsune is the original multi-tailed fox, living up to 1000 years and growing a new tail every 100 years after the first . . . so if you meet one with 5 tails, then he/she is 500 old and has said many years of experience and power.
Now heres the major thing that seperates them from all other fox spirits. The are the only spiritual creatures to cover all the elements in nature.
There are at least 13 different breeds of kitsune, one for every element from:
The Four Cores: Earth, Air, Fire, Water
The Four Fusions: Wood, Lightning, Metal, Ice
The Two Influences: Light, Dark
and The Three Lords: Sound, Life/Spirit, Time.
Their natural form is that of a ball of pure elemental energy that when fully vitalized by their given element can take on the physical shape of a multi-tailed fox. Of this is just what the Lore researchers say, I have my own doubts on it.
Any who . . .
Here's bit of legendary lore I truly love about Kitsunes and why I feel a connection to them at heart . . .
Not only are they masters of transformation, capable of appearing as absolutely anything they wish; but they are Master Artisans at Illusions! They can create illusions so complete that they are truly REAL so long as they wish them to be!!
This near unparallelled mastery of Transformation and Illusion is what made Kitsunes both feared and respected in their heirdays. They were cunning teachers, mischievious tricksters, wise spirit guides, and when they did choose to help a "hero" they did it with a style all their own.
But like any spirit, they come in both good and evil, so add that to their mischievious ways of doing things, it's little wonder why Priests and "Those in power" would want them gone . . . who better to make them eat crow, lol.

Wooooo, that was a lot to get off the ol' chest. Sorry if I took off on anybody, that's just one of my character flaws.
On a more personal note . . . if Magnolia or any of the many other spirit callers/binders/etc could actually contact any Kitsunes . . . I wouldn't mind learning about a weird thought that shot through my head one time. Everytime I watch, read, whatever something about fox spirits I eventually come to this interesting idea . . . could there be 14th, rare of the rare breed of ancient kitsune out there? I just keep thinking about a species of kitsune with 13 tails, one for every element; nine flowing out like normal, but also with four main-like tails flowing over the shoulders and hips.
I realize this is off subject but it's just something that keeps comeing up in the back of my head everytime I watch or read something involving fox spirits, kitsunes, or nine-tailed foxes.
Congrats on learning about your little friend CN.
Kitsune anyone?

Hi again everyone.
Sorry I went off like that before.
I just read the encyclopedia entry on Kitsune and I just got case of the weird willies! You know that feeling that makes characters look at the audiance and say "Dang!"
It was that the Kitsunes have connections with the Moon and the color orange.
For some time now I've been very wary of the colors of the Full Moon.
It started during my last years of attending Technical Collage, when I was taking night classes.
One night, while on my way to class, I saw some deer crossing as I approached. I slowed as on doe and then a fawn crossed . . . the third doe seem to hault as if waiting for me to continue. But as I started to pass, she proceeded . . . I quickly and gently turned, trying to roll around her so I'd avoid going through her. It wasn't a total miss . . . we clipped each other. I was shocked and worried all the way to class. When I finally parked I checked the damage . . . just cosmetic, a dented bumper and dislodged light . . . but not hide or blood. On my way home, as I passed the spot . . . I found no trace of the doe I clipped . . . no blood and no body . . . I assumed and hoped the impack had just stunned her.
The rest of the way home, I took note of things that were unique about that night . . . trying to figure what could of resulted in such a wild card night . . . and the most notable detail . . . was the state of the moon. It was a full moon that night . . . but that wasn't the most important fact . . . the Moon was a bright Orange . . . like an orb of honed and polished Amber resting in black velvet!
Ever since that night, my luck has proven time and again to be sensitive to the full moon. When it's a pure silver white like pearl, my luck is positive true and true all night at work . . . good hours, good customers, good tips, good all over! But . . . whenever the full moon is any hue of yellow or worse orange, my luck is more unpredictible than a deck full of jokers on casino table!
Knowing this and then reading the entry on kitsunes . . . I was hit all of a sudden with this curiousity . . . could a person be born with or develope a kenship to certain spirits, or have a little of several spirits' essenses in their souls?
Just something that hit me like fist to the chest as I read the assossiations.
Any thoughts?

I think we are all born with affinities to various animals and spirits tho the why of it is not always clear. Might be past life stuff or a 'soul thing' (that's a technical term  ) I've noticed that different animals/spirits come into focus at different times in peoples' lives tho some seem to be a permanent feature throughout the life.
Interesting about the moon's color affecting luck - I'll have to try & observe that myself. I've always been a 'moon person'.
I have 2 Kitsune here - they just showed up one day. I gave them a very pretty orange stone for a vessel. So far they haven't said why they are here but that's ok. I'm sure they'll explain in time. They 'feel' very friendly but watchful.

Kitsune=a name for all fox spirits, regardless of how many tails
About this, I have replied to something similar quite a while back.xXxClairexXx wrote:Kitsune actually means fox in Japanese.
They are hated in Japan as they cause a lot of troubles to human, most prists and occalt artists try their best to get rid of them in Japan.
But I guess if they are bonded to a vessle then it is OK to keep them.
It was for a pipe fox topic but the same nature.
I'll quote it here:
(from HERE)Capricornus-Aquarion wrote:They can be great teachers.
Foxes, ever since ancient Japan, are not only feared but worshiped
for their high magickal abilities in quite a lot of fields.
The ways that fox spirits mess up lives is mostly because of how they were being treated when they were alive.
Those that became spirits with a vessel of a pipe of bamboo (not only foxes, there are cats, dogs, etc.),
Thus the name "pipe -".
They were usually treated with cruelty to death,
to ensure the hatred generated would heighten the intensity of magick the spirits possess.
They would have to obey their masters,
but would always find opportunities to seek vengeance on the person who turned them into hatred-bearing spirits.
The ones that we have now, I think they are DA as they are of duality and they can choose.
However they might be towards the WA side more now
as they have retained their magickal abilities and most have forgiven what human has done to them.
Yes. I was born with one, and a few other spirits' essences.sonicrailin wrote:...

If anything, kudagitsune is nearer iduna or inugami than kitsune.

Inugami=dog deity
Izuna=lower fox spirit (correct me if I'm off on this one, am not 100% sure)
Kitsune=fox spirit that would go through tests every 1000 years and get extra tails, the more tails the more powerful, highest is 9 (except the fox form of Immortal Inari)
Kudakitsune=fox spirits that's been made through cruelty (as my previous quote have explained) into subordinates and vessels are traditionally bamboo tubes in ancient times thus the name "pipe." Apart from fox, this form of subordinates can use dogs or cats or any other animals' spirits. (kuda-inu, etc.)
P.S. I think it was when I said "same nature" that confused you. I apologize for that. What I meant was I have made response to another post referring the claim that fox spirits are regarded as malevolent in Japan, and I used that as a response here as well. Sorry for the confusion.

To animals, spirits and to people as well.
Fox spirits are somewhat elusive, but forming a bond with one can be very enlightening. One of the first spirits I bound myself was a chinese fox spirit.
Any spirit must agree to be bound. Attempts to do so without the willingness of the spirit and/or being improperly bound, I suspect, is the root of many of the stories of vengeance that have been handed down thru history.
The key is to ask a spirit before you buy if they would like to join you. Lacking that, request that Magnolia or Ash help choose one that is suitable for you by checking the box that a replacement is suitable.
Again, good post CA, glad you brought this one back up. There is a lot of gold out there in old posts.
Bright Blessings,
Alex

It is a part of the element of inugami, and not all.Capricornus-Aquarion wrote:Inugami=dog deity
It is told for, "It is looks like the mouse" or "It looks like the weasel" .
The appearance of inugami is very near kudagitsune.
It is not Wolf though Aardwolf is included word "wolf" in the name .
It is this and the same thing.
