No form of meditation I use would cause a state of numbness. (unless it's being done for the purpose of pain relief, in which case the sensation should be "free from pain" not numb) Since most meditation involves maintaining a state of mindfullness, numbness is not the desired goal.

Honestly, it sounds as though you might benefit from a class or two. Meditation is taught (often for free) in many community venues. My local library has a class at least once a month. If you're having trouble finding one look for those that offer Yoga instruction or check the local YMCA or community college.
