I also feel, it's a highly personal tool..I have run accross sites that sell these "premade" but have yet to encounter people who will customize such items to your energy, talents, or those who will use materials better suited to the individual.

Or has there already been an elaborated thread on this, and I missed it?...drats  ..

I prefer to use found items or materials I feel particularly called to. But it depends on what you want to use it for. Anywhere that sells plumbing supplies is a place to get inexpensive copper. Fallen branches can be picked up after a storm. I have a wand made in a college ceramics class out of clay and quartz. I have one made of wood and stained glass.

What ever you prefer, so long as it's a sturdy piece you start with.

I'm interested in seeing what materials people are using to make wands. The first wands I ever saw in person were in one of the local meta shops, and they were made of glass and quartz. I have an eternal fascination with all things that catch and hold light, and I was utterly enthralled by those wands. Unfortunately, I was a broke student and couldn't afford to buy any of them. Darn! :hissy: But the memory stuck with me for years.

Fast-forward a couple of decades. In the intervening years, I had studied crystal healing methods and had cobbled together a modest collection. Then came the day I took up wire-wrapping. My mind went right back to those glass-and-quartz wands I had loved so much. I bought the components I needed and experimented until I determined how to wire-wrap the kind of wand I'd wanted all that time. (The original ones I saw appeared to be soldered, not wire-wrapped, but I'm not playing with fire anytime soon, lol. ;) )

I did see someone who mentioned stained glass as one of their wand components. But so far, I haven't seen glass mentioned besides that. Leave it to me to gravitate toward materials that are somewhat off the beaten path, lol. But glass transmits light and energy so nicely. As people continue to acclimate to the idea of fiber-optic data transmission, which can use cables with extruded glass at their core, I wonder if it will become easier for people who favor metaphysics to envision the transmitting abilities of glass more readily. At that point, maybe we'll start seeing it make an appearance in more wands.

yeah but fiber-optics is currently very expensive to run, to set up a system you have to have systems that convert the electrical pulses to light then transmit them in a specific color and depending on the distance you have to amplify the light to make sure you have enough strength to have what was being transmitted accurately be translated back to electronic pulses. One of my professors has worked with fiber optics before.

This was a fascinating read and well-timed for me personally.

I have several wands (one is wood and is the one I began my journey with, and others are crystal/gemstone) but never gave thought to having separate wands for separate or defined magickal needs. It's something I will consider.

I was recently able to gather a few branches from my favorite tree in the yard where I grew up. My dad and his new wife live there now, but I had his permission to do this. I'm seriously thinking about integrating these branches into a new wand that I can use for ancestral work, since I associate it with growing up, respect, culture, and life in general.

I'm not the most creative person when it comes to handicrafts (I'm more of a writer) so this may take me some time to plan out before I take a stab at it.

You've given me something to ponder and plan.

Thank you!
