Normally, I like ghost stories, but this one was quite possibly the most depressing movie that I have ever seen.
I ended up having to watch several comedies after this just to try to take my mind off of how much I hated the ending.
I thought it was really unfair for the lady to do what she did, especially when the main character had tried to help her to find peace.
Besides that, the "scary" parts are very predictable. 2cents

Agree, the ending was plain cruel from the woman. The scary parts, even though predictable, were still down right scary lol at least to me. It was not subtle but aggressive.

oooh O.o
A depressing horror, you say? I think I will watch this on one of those days when I am feeling introverted and antisocial.

It's got that Harry Potter bloke in it, right? I've heard his acting is atrocious in it - it hasn't received any rave reviews. Wasn't even going to think aout catching it until you guys posted these comments, now I really want to see it!!!

Finally I caught up with this movie. Let me share what I thought of it.
I found it eerie and a little terrifying. It made me jump out of my skin a few times. Sadly, the plot itself was somewhat weak but I liked Radcliffe in it. He looks very subdued but hey he was playing a grieving widow, so in all fairness, I thought he did a decent job of it. Good for one time watch.

WARNING - SPOILER ALERT
My wraith and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie... of course, wraiths feed on fear, so no surprise there... I had to warn him that I was deliberately placing myself into a situation where I would feel certain things, and that he shouldn't react defensively, but once he understood, we sat down and watched the movie...
He says it was... cheap thrills... but he enjoyed the forray into modern human culture. Although he doesn't quite get why the movie was scary. But then... he doesn't quite get why HE can be scary, so there you go. lol
Radcliffe was great, his character was believable. The movie wasn't gorey, which I really appreciated... but it was on-the-edge-of-your-seat tense kind of scary, which I also like. I did NOT like the ending... it was depressing. I like happy endings where there's a glorious flash of gold light (like that ever happens in real life), and the ghost and her issues head for the other side, and everyone ends up happy...
This ending was... poignant... Radcliffe's character and son ended up happy, but not without his character realizing what had happened, and what he'd LOST... which totally sucked. And the fact that the other situation was obviously NOT resolved and the villagers were left essentially cursed was deeply dis-satisfying to me.
I don't think I'm interested in seeing it again... but again, it's just because I really prefer happy endings. It was a good jump, though. I liked those parts.
Bright blessings....

One thing I DID notice, and I'm wondering if anyone else got caught on it, too... on the train, when Radcliffe was reading the newspaper... the pictures weren't moving. It shocked me out of the movie.
And again, when he was climbing that staircase and the paintings on the wall weren't moving or speaking...
That was just... weird.
Seeing him for 8 years in movies where all the newspapers and paintings moved, and then seeing that NOT happen was... startling. lmao
