Those I have spoken to did not choose to "try this at home". They travelled to South America to work with shamans experienced with the drug and its traditional use.
From what I have gathered, you cannot choose the experience you have with it, rather, it gives you what you "need". Those that I spoke to did not come away with any additional "abilities" but instead, experienced a deep mental purge (it is worth mentioning here that although throwing up is common, those I spoke to also purged from the other end just as violently).
This mental purge did result in them seeing our existence radically differently, but moreover, it helped them to let go of some deep traumas they had experienced in their lives but not before reliving them in painful detail during their "trip". Those I spoke to had been doing much self-development and reflection for some years before deciding to partake and yet there was obviously much work yet to be done.
They also mentioned had it not been for the experience of the shaman and his wife, they might well have harmed themselves physically (by not being supervised during the "trip"). Also, if any if you are familiar with psychedelics....which I am and have done, you know that it is easy for your mind to trick you, and become "too high" simply by thinking too much. That is also possible with this drug and the shaman is there to keep that from happening.
So what am I saying? I encourage everyone to explore what feels right for them, however this isnt a drug to be done without the experience of self-reflection, nor without experienced supervision.
It is my hope to travel to SA and try this for my own growth under the proper conditions. I hope that any of you who try it at home be aware of the risks and are very careful.

I, too, have seen more about the usage of this aiding in dealing with trauma.

Very important point, very important post.. These so-called miracle methods of awakening and shifting, are not understood by westerners the way the very source and - experienced shamans - know them.
The right environment, the right frame of mind, the proper openness, dosage, and guidance would be absolutely necessary.

Stating this, I personally haven't found using aids of this nature necessary in my psychic awakening, or spiritual and mental growth. It doesn't really appeal to me. But to each their own.

That's cool. Maybe you don't need to use ayahuasca or other hallucinogens. Some us are broken physically, mentally and, psychically and need aids like this in order to experience the spiritual world. I wish I didn't but I've been doing this for well over 12 years now and I still haven't found a way to connect with my entities so I guess I have to try something extreme.

This is why I say 'to each their own'. I don't really care what others choose to do, and I like to ponder on differentiating accounts because reality is not one-dimensional, but I can only speak from my own experience.

I don't have anything against going to extremes, either.. in my initial post I suggested there are other forms of the 'extreme'. I go to my own extremes, but in different ways, for different reasons..
I have worked very hard to get where I am in many areas.. the <<Removed by Mod>> I've experienced is intense. I've shattered myself several times in order to transcend.

For the record, I do not consider a drug in itself to be extreme, there is such a thing as responsible exploration.. but it's still not for everyone.

I think we should all go forward with the correct mentality in our pursuits, and respect for what we engage in..

I'm all for trying whatever you want too.....I just don't think Ayahuasca does that....meaning - helps psychic abilities.

DMT has been linked with possible paranormal experiences and is the principle compound in Ayahuasca but our brains (and plants) produce this chemical commonly and naturally. All taking Ayahuasca will do is temporarily increase the DMT and give you one heck of an experience. It won't permanently increase DMT production as far as we know.

The effect would be temporary.

I think, for me, drugs of any kind is not the answer. I would like to explore. but without the aid of psychedelics to accomplish this. If you wish to do so, that is your choice and fine by me. Just try to remember the trip when you come back.

That's why I like cannabis. I can remember it afterwards. All it does is open my mind (and helps with pain!) and allows me to think freely without the constraints of "this is weird to be thinking about", etc :)

The MK folks paid me to take a series of drinks made of V8 Juice and finely powered banisteria caapi which is Ayuahuasca........twice a week for about 1/2 a year. And also I have talked with William S. Buroughs about it. As it was a controlled situation, what I saw and felt could be confirmed through my blood samples and debriefings and conversations....It was like commuting to work every day and being in (first day) a 4th dimensional village with physical miracles and then (2nd day) realizing that it was definitely not hallucination.

In my opinion, all other psych drugs are a waste of time and attack the liver, but amy permanently increase your eyesight......maybe...Note: I don't advocate for anything I am saying. I am just saying that I experienced this when much younger and believe that what I learned I could use and still can use.

I've stumbled multiple times on shamans stating that the non dmt containig (spirit) plant is of most importance contrary to westerne's assumptions. I would not take it as a means of spirit contact or psychic development, I take her as a healer based on everything I've read.
