here is another cold and cough remedy from my book american indian healing arts from E. barrie kavasch and karen baar
wild cherry cough syrup
2 tsp chopped or powdered dried wild cherry bark
2 tsp chopped dried marshmallow root
2 cups water
1 cup raw honey
1 cup maple syrup
combine the first three ingredients in a small pot and bring to a boil over medium-low heat, stirring carefully. Lower the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 20 minutes or until the decoction has reduced by half. Strain the liquid through a filter into a clean sauce pan-there should be about a 1 cup-and return to low heat. Simmer slowly, stirring in the honey and maple syrup, for about 5 minutes, until thick. pour the hot syrup in to a sterile jar; cover wen it is cool. to soothe a bad cough, use it as needed, about 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon every four hours
