Camazotz

Postby Lokakisa » Thu Jul 14, 2016 3:09 pm

Based on Noc's oracle service, I have a new deity in my life - the Mayan bat-god Camazotz!
He asked me not to fear Him, and I don't ... I dig bats (and bat-winged guys >.>) anyway and it just feeds my Halloween feels lol. :evilbat:
I feel really honored that He reached out to me, as I don't know much at all about Mayan culture/lore.
I was wondering if anyone else works with Him?

I don't work with him, necessarily, but I've done a lot of research into Mesoamerican gods and goddesses just because I love the civilizations and cultures therein! Camazotz is a great one to be matched with, though in the original mythology he was not one entity but several, almost like the Erinyes of Greek mythology. Guardians of Xibalba, he/they also eventually helped to broker a deal with humanity involving sacrificing their waists and armpits c:

Ultimately, I see the energy of Camazotz as one of dark protection who will guard the gates to your "underworld", as it were, and potentially help you work with your Shadow. He is also a good one for recognizing what needs to be sacrificed in your life in order to move forward and make the best gains possible (for example, habits or behaviors or even certain possessions that no longer serve you).

Best of luck with your new Immortal partner! I think he will be a great ally for you :D

That's very helpful, thank you!
Interestingly, He told me to "feed my senses" in order to get the abilities I crave, as in, surround myself with manifestations of what I want to have or absorb. Also, He says I am grounded to the earth and have a warrioress' energy, but I am somehow disconnected from myself and need to embrace my personal power.

LOL

I decided to crack open my Dictionary of Gods and Goddesses, Second Edition by Michael Jordan

First, he's listed under Zotz.

Zotz
Tutelary god. Mayan (Zotzil Indian, Mesoamerican) [Guatemala]. Manifest in the form of a bat.

Thank you, reference book, for that lovely exposition. lol

LOL yeah my first search didn't turn up a whole lot, and apparently the name is used in fiction too. I will keep looking though, since Cerata mentioned some things I hadn't seen yet.

But this is hilarious - http://www.badassoftheweek.com/index.cg ... 7935724254

Yeah.. Badass.. that about sums it up. Ha. I love that article.
He is often villainized, there are a couple of different depictions of what Camazotz represents and how he came to be in the mythology. I think his essence is somewhat misunderstood, however.

Out of interest, since you shared this I might add that Camazotz actually manifested a blood offering from me during the exchange. I had a cut which began to bleed.. everywhere. Absent-mindedly I began rubbing at it while I was in the midst of this session. I soon was startled to notice this, obviously was a result of engaging him. No harm done at all, but I see how he might freak some people out. Lol!

I had been familiar with this God but this is the first actual manifestation for me of his presence. So I must thank you for a memorable encounter.

Yeah, I was sad to see how it came across like He was totally evil or something. Funnily enough, I was surprised, I guess I should've suspected it, but I had positive feels going into the search. I guess I need to dig deeper to find the more positive or at least objective views.
And wow, that's an interesting experience ... I am happy to share, and give Him some much-needed limelight.
I am so glad for all three Who came forth, but for some reason I am most touched by Camazotz.

Ahahaha I know right!
He's actually not my first "bat-guy" though ... I have a vampire shifter from Lilith's Treasure Tavern. He's a deep, dark, serious but gentle guy who can produce bat wings. (I told her I was looking for someone like Ulquiorra from "Bleach," but an actual spirit rather than a thoughtform.)
And then there's my incubus and my Darkling Cambion. They have bat wings also.
Oh and I have a bat totem familiar from Starry1Night.
So yep, I like bats. ;P

I remembered that Toni has camazotz conjures in her shop, but she describes them as very dark beings that will only begrudgingly do good. I wonder what it is that she has encountered, as it seems the Bat Lord Himself is not "the bad guy" you would initially be led to believe. His realm and minions may be dark, but true evil? I doubt it. That viewpoint comes from fear and misunderstanding. I'm not saying that they fart glitter either though, lol. It's just that whole "everything dark and dangerous is demonized" thing.
