My laptop is now 6 years old. I decided today that it is time to get a new one, once I have the finances for it - December.

Which laptop brand would you recommend, and why? I currently have a Dell and it's been okay, but I feel there are better brands out there.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Funny you mention Acer, a family member of mine recommended this brand to me when I told them I am planning on getting a new laptop, so I will definitely keep it in mind! Thanks for your reply Doomguy. 2hp

Get a custom built one, most of the brand name ones are nice but if you watch for the sales you can get a really good deal.
And no they aren't always that much more expensive.
cyberpowerpc.com is a decent place.

*agrees with wookie* I don't have recommandations for US sites, but my desktop PC is custom build, around 600 bucks and a pretty decent PC for gaming. I would've paid over 1000 bucks, when I compare it to PCs from certain brands with comparable performance.
The site I got mine from only sells gaming laptops and they're pretty pricy : /

What is your budget and what are you looking for? What is the primary use of the laptop?

Personally I would recommend a Macbook, they're more expensive but you get what you pay for. Although if you are a gamer and have to stick with Windows, when I used Windows, I liked HP. I don't know if I feel strongly enough to personally recommend them, but my HP lasted a long time. I used to have an HP laptop with a dual boot system of Windows and Linux. Before that I had a Dell which is still running, though it only has 512 MBs of ram LOL I didn't like Dell's customer service though and they don't make them like they used to. Have had Dells I worked on since then and they have gone downhill in quality. (I was an IT/Server Admin and then an Engineer, so I've fixed a lot of computers over the years...)

Don’t let bitter, unhappy people drag you down to their level. Instead use their behavior as an example of how not to behave and be grateful you are nothing like them. 2lv

Budget laptop for multimedia/gaming etc. I think Dell Inspiron 15 5567 is good. Not expensive. And all Asus laptops over $1000 are great.
