Hello all,
I am completely new to spirit keeping and have been doing my due diligence reading as much as I can here on the forums. My initial goal was to learn enough for me to safely and confidently have a nympho to start in my keep. I understand they are white arts spirits and from my understanding, incapable of doing harm, but I have been reading threads where malicious spirits have entered by force with the keeping of good spirits.

My question is - would it be better to get a protective spirit like a courtwind/ brownyn angel first before I get a custom conjured nympho? Also with this, I am trying to figure out the class difference between them. I don't understand why someone would need a 5000 mile spirit range, is a class 4 protective/ other spirit going to be less powerful than a class 5 tier 3?

And if you could recommend your favorite protective spirit you keep as well, that would be great.

I would get protection spirits first before getting nymphos. The distance thingie applies only to spells. Spirits can travel anywhere they want to.

My personal favourites would be gargoyles and basilisks, I have both whom I love dearly. Bronwyns are great too as protection but I don't have any experiences with them. But don't just go with what is recommended. Go through all protection types and feel which ones you feel most called to.

I agree that protective spirits can be a good first choice. But, in my experience, any spirit you choose will try to protect you in any way they can. I don't really have any "protective" type spirits. But my Vampire and one of my ubi companions are ferociously protective of me. The Amorak is very protective of the dogs in my home and an especially good guard against unbound spirits. He patrols the property regularly.

If you make sure you have the right protection in place; whether that is by spell or spirit or both, you really shouldn't have to worry about anything.

I would say get what your heart tells you. If protection concerns you there are spells and rituals you can do.

But I do like protective spirits, but for me it gives me a safe feeling.

Now I may be reconsidering as maybe a protective spirit + protective spell + nympho is more of what I should be looking into for myself. I know others are different but I have some anxiety about my first spirit experience going wrong in some way and affecting my family, life, or home.

Are there any protection spells you guys can recommend? I believe I am mostly looking for protection from spirits/ unbounds, not necessarily for daily life although that is a plus lol

I do recommend Ash's Favorite Spells in One Place as a good starting place with a protection binding. It was my first binding and I still lean on it sometimes. Don't forget to interact with the magical binding in meditation and direct your intent for how you want it to protect you.

There are no special rituals involved, just memorization and visualization. It does really well clearing the space and it won't harm any bound companions.

There are other spells in that book that you can apply to specific areas of your life if you feel it is needed.

When you place your order, add in the customer notes that the spirits need to be open to a home with a family environment, and children if you have them, and that protection may need to be extended toward them. Set up some House Rules for the spirits not to manifest or interact with any of your family (or anyone other than you) unless you give explicit verbal permission or instruction to do so. I also would task your spirits immediately with protecting your home and family by escorting any unbound spirits off property and warning you if any such spirits have negative intentions. And, if they have the ability, to guard you, your family and your home from psychic and magical attack.

With all of that in place I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Another House Rule suggestion I highly recommend: Ask the spirits to only act as you direct when it comes to protection (or anything else) and NOT to act on your emotions or brief thoughts. This way they don't go off half-cocked just because you are briefly annoyed by someone.

Are house rules important even if the spirits in a keep are only WA? I do not have any intention to have DA so maybe the house rules would be a bit more relaxed than what the common rules are. You do bring up good points though that are safe rules to have regardless of their type.
