I went months just bonding with my Djinn, doing activities together and meditations. Never asked for anything aside from normal tasks like protection. He was the first to bring up wishes, pointing out that I have never asked and then asked me if I wanted anything. From what I've learned from him, asking for wishes isn't necessary.
