I feel alcohol numbs my psychic senses apart from having the potential of creating nightmares (at least in me) so I avoid any alcohol consumption if I plan to do psychic work or intense talking with my spirits. But I can sometimes drink a glass of beer with my leprachauns just for company..

I'm in the same boat as GodSlayerBabe: I sometimes drink as part of bonding. It depends on the spirit, really. Some of them really like alcohol and enjoy sharing drinks with their human friends. Some of them don't. I try not to over-indulge due to health risks and the strong dent in my pocketbook. It doesn't help that I also have a high tolerance.

I also find that some spirits like alcohol as an offering. Occasionally they demand that you be the one drinking it. I don't mind this and see it as "fair trade". I do a few shots, they do me a favor. Fair enough. Most, though, are just happy to have some token alcohol around. It could be in a small ceremonial cup or slipped into some tea or coffee I leave for them.

The times I have over-indulged I find it doesn't dull my supernatural senses at all. As long as my thoughts are still clear I can do everything exactly the same. If my brain is fuzzy I can still hear and reply to spirits just the same. It only seems to dull things like casting, energy work, and other higher-level features. I am not walled off at all.

Of course there's no real benefit most of the time to mixing alcohol and spirits, either. Over-indulging did not make me stronger. I don't have to drink regularly to work with my spirits. As everyone else has said, do what is best for your health and safety.

Funny how this topic came up just now as I was just about to search for a topic about alcohol and its effect on connecting with spirits. I am from Finland and anyone who knows nothing about Finland knows that we like alcohol and like to get drunk ever so often lol. This friday night I am a little bit under the infulense heh and was thinking do I dare to try and connect with my spirit or is it perhaps dangerous or do the spirits like/understand that we people sometimes like to get drunk.
But yeah if we think about the traditional way, the shamans and witches propably were more or less intoxicated during their practise in the past as people drunk wine and beer more than clear water back in the days...as it was common to drink those drinks.

For me, this seems to ring true as well. However I think it also depends on what you're drinking and how it affects you. I don't see people getting good results if they're chugging their "angry" drink, for example.

Right, it's not something that I would normally recommend.

Spittin' pure facts as usual.
Alcoholics anonymous does not usually cover spiritual conversations.

I can see benefits to the use of impairing substances for some people, but personally I prefer to be in full control of my mind when reaching out to something so I can better discern what may be a spirit's doing and what isn't.
