Plus, they list a few more bonus titles at the end of the article.

Caiyros, I know you're well-read on these topics, and often have book recommendations. Some of these titles look familiar to me, and my first thought is that you've offered them as suggestions in threads before. Which of these have you read, and do you agree that they're good material for people who are seeking spirituality?

Neitzsche mut have bee ndrinking cocktails made of Opium and Absinthe whern writing Zarauthustra.. The Gay Science, and the Birth of Tragedy are much better..

Start with Kenneth Patchen:
From Dark) The Murder of Two Men by a Young Kid Wearing Lemon Colored Gloves
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jyVvhsLqao
To Light: Be Music Night
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6PMzM7qDKE

When I was at the New School in NYC, I had a class that was taught by what we called “The 2 Joes” who were Joseph Campbell and Dr. Joseph Kaster (who was a licensed psychiatrist, and fluent in Ancient, Paraclean, & Loine Greek, as well as Ancient Egyptian…..They both agreed that one should start with Homer’s Illiam & Odyssey, but even before that read Joe Campbell’s Hero of a 1,000 Faces. When I read it, I read it on a train from NYC to Phila got to my mother’s place, and sat up reading it, until done (with bathroom breaks, and lit cigarettes. It was changing my life as I read it, and was the most influenctial book in my life. On the surface Homer’s 2 stories are exiting or cool or whatever. But they tell thru story and a unique “something” to it, one is given a shot in the arm of both situational wisdom and mystical wisdom. Please note that Helen of Troy was a kidnapped Sibyl…in truth.

So then go to:
Cesar Frank’s Symphony in D Minor

&
Brahms 1st Hungarian Dance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0egvi2CBrM4
Then read The Secret Science Behind Miracles, and the Secret Science at Work, by my old deceased friend Max Freedom Long.

Then watch the movie Orphee (or Orpeus) by Jean Cocteau, followed by Blood of a Poet – again by Cocteau.
Then read: Jurgen by James Branch Cabell

Followed by my old drinking buddy,Alain RObbe-Grillet “we were lions” at the French Embassy’s “meet and great the department heards of the Boston Colleges & Universities. The 2 of us dran a shopping carte of exceptional red wine.”Le vin c’est le sang”, anyway I digress. Read his In the Labyrinth (aka Dan Le Labrynthe) and then rent or buy Last Year at Marienbad (he wrote the film and co-directed it with Alain Renais.

Then take a breather, and read Henry Miller’s Tropic of Cancer. Then read: Grist of the Mill by still alive friend Ramm Das. Years ago, he wrote a little intro to my first published book First Songs (out of print). Why the personal comments, because being personal (with some limitations) one can add energy to what is being said, written, sung, or played. But I digress.

Then read Alan Watts: The Way of Zen, followed by Jurgen by James Branch Cabell, followed by Surfers of the Zuvuya by Jose Arguelles……then go out and look at the night sky when it is clear…
Then with some wine and cheese. I suggest a reasonable Merlot with a block of sharp cheddar, and some bread (amazingly, I went into a liquor store to get some Merlot, and I chatted at the counter with this nice elderly man, and we laughed and talked about the weather, and then as I was leaving, he reached under the counter and pulled out a baguette (a misshapen tubular uncut loaf of bread). It was fresh and wonderful, had some friends over to share it…But I digress.

And so with the mention of nourishment and friends….
